Recommend a UK radar/laser detector for a Z4
 

Hi all,

After 17 years of driving and only one speeding ticket, I've now
received two tickets in the four weeks I've had my new Z4 for doing
nine miles over the speed limit in both cases. Obviously, the Z4
doesn't have a huge amount of space in it, but I'd like to know if
anyone can recommend a device that warn me of radar/laser traps. I need
it to be as discreet as possible as I'd hate to have an ugly looking
thing stuck on dash. The two I've found are the Snooper S6-R Neo (ugly)
and the 'New' Road Angel (nicer looking) but I truly have no clue about
these things. Ideally I'd want it tucked away in the storage
compartment where the CD player is but I don't know if that's possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, can I fit this type of
thing myself or should Ieither get BMW to fit it, or get a specialist
to fit?

The latter is not a RaDAR detector but is good at picking off
cameras and stuff, and highly recommended by various sources for
UK use. (In North America, the "platinum" RD is of course the
Valentine One.)

Hard wiring detectors can be done as a DIY job, but there's no
shame in getting a radio shop or something to put in the direct
wiring from the ignition ("switched" wires), so long as the
labour cost isn't too much. A *laser* detector cannot be hidden
anywhere, because it needs a direct line of sight to operate.
This may or may not be of concern to you - many say that laser
detection isn't worth much, but others (me included) claim that
it can work... sometimes.

I have recently purchased the Snooper S4, it seems a little more discreet
than the S6 but with similar features. It has built in GPS which warns of
fixed camera sites using a subscription paid download service from the
internet. (I did find this a little awkward the first time)

The small clear screen can be set to display a digital clock when its not
detecting any dangers and also displays your compass heading.

I find the voice warnings are also very clear.

You can just plug most of these detectors into the cigarette lighter socket,
but having it hard wired is much neater.

Likewise i am using the S4 neo and find it to be an excellent piece of
equipment that does exactly what it says on the tin , has paid for
itself many times over allready ! and would recommend it without
hesitation
