90 Fox has a wierd steering glitch

Every now and then, the steering wheel on my Fox will jerk to the left,
as if something might be binding. Funny that it's intermittant. My VW
mechanic has more or less bailed on the problem as Foxes aren't the
models he's the most familiar with. My other regular mechanic has
inspected the front end and has found nothing out of the ordinary. I'm
stumped. Any thoughts before I put the old girl up for sale?
Thanks.

I do hope you're not selling it because of the steering :)

As long as the front end is aligned there isn't much to do about it. And
some cars even when aligned are still susceptible to the steering wheel
jerking a little bit when hitting a bump (are we talking that it does this
when you hit a bump?) simply because of the geometry of the front suspension
and steering. My '91 GTI reacts to bumps and uneven road surfaces this way.
