right-on-red stress
I'm in a new town. I don't feel comfortable turning right-on-red with
the amount of traffic. Most of these types of intersections are marked "no right turn on red" where I'm from and it just seems bad to gun the gas on red to save a few seconds. It would be too easy to miss a speeding car on a yellow light or a pedestrian. Lots of people speed here. Cars here beep at people that don't turn on red. How do I handle these beepers? If I don't feel comfortable, would it be a mistake to turn? |

That said if people are honking at you perhaps you could try to be more observant of "gaps" in traffic that you could use. But still if you aren't comfortable and confident in making a maneuver you shouldn't do it. nate |

The beeps have been more on the friendly side, like a car that forgets to go on green, but they still have been stressful. I'm from a smaller town and beeps are reserved for accidents about to happen, so when someone beeps, I feel the stress of an accident about to happen. I can desensative myself to it and know that it might just be someone wanting to save 10 seconds. |

Sitting at a turn waiting for the traffic to clear as far as the eye can see is not only wasting your gas and time, but for those behind you as well. If people are honking it's likely *they* can see the coast is clear enough for you to go. When you do eventually ooze onto that highway, for Jeebus sake, PLEASE stay in the right lane! |

If turning right on red is that stressfull, what in the heck do you do at a stop sign? This is pretty clearly a troll, as far as I can see. Bernard |

False assumptions on limited info. Not a troll. I'm originally from
the relative boonies of the city of Binghamton, NY. Always turned right on red up there no problem. Felt safe doing so. It was easy to. Similar intersections in my town and in much of the northeast are all marked "no-turn-on-red". Once I get used to the traffic patterns it should get easier. Not used to u-turns, blinkerless central Florida driving, and quick lane changers. U-turns are so rare where I'm from. I absolutely hate drivers down here that don't use blinkers. In central Florida it's optional. And no I don't have trouble with the stops signs down here. I'd be happy to quit driving if someone would like to volunteer to be my personal driver. I don't get that many beeps. About once a week from the car immediately behind me. It's not like 10 seconds is a terrible amount of time for someone to have to wait. |
