What is with this thing?

Is it just me, or is it getting slow to the point where you can't even use
it any more?

It is probably buckling under the weight of a billion 'emoticons'.

Web based forums, oh how I loathe thee. Bloody avatars, smilies and
signatures out the wazoo.

Usenet for life!

It's *always* hit and miss. Great content, and I absolutely appreciate the
effort, but I hate the performance. Ras is so much better.

It's getting slower day by day. Perhaps something to do with them
constantly editing the forum software... I mean there's been that "We
are currently editing our forum software, please read this for more
info." text/link at the top of the forum since last july ;)

There hasn't been any change to the forum software since the last upgrade.
The performance issues are down to the server the forum is hosted on not
being up to the task of serving the vast amount of traffoc we receive.
Generally things start to slow down if there are more that 500 people online
at the same time. We have done things to reduce the server workload but the
long and the short of it is we need a new server or servers.

Cheers
