Open the hood and look straight up to the underside of the hood just behind
the grill. There should be a sticker there that lists what differentials and
gear ratios you have. If that sticker isn't there write down the VIN and
call your local Dodge dealer. They can look it up that information for you.
Go to this website and put in your vehicle information. It will give you
fluid recommendations and capacities. Even if you don't buy from Amsoil it's
a good reference.

I've heard and been told synthetic for the differential will help it run
cooler under heavy loads but I personally don't see any advantage of
using it in the differential.

Dodge recommends using synthetic oil in the differential for heavy
hauling. All the force to move the truck forward goes through the
differential. Synthetic can only help. My next oil change will have
sythetic put in the diff.

Synthetic oil lasts longer, and protects better.

Put the truck in park, block the front tires. jack the back tires off the
ground, give the wheel a spin with your hand. if the wheel on the other side
spins in the opposite direction freely, then its open, if its hard to spin,
then its a LSD

Yep, and I didn't pay attention to what I typed. Here is what I meant
to say.
