Performance brake pads for Accord LX? by
Charles Lasitter
I have a new '05, and the factory pads are supposed to last to 110k,
and that's great, but I'm really more interested in maximizing braking
performance.
I've put Performance Friction pads on other vehicles I've owned and
been pleasantly surprised at the improvement. I don't mind that they
might...

Anyone w/access to 2005 Service Manual? by
Charles Lasitter
In the special tools section there's a listing for test harness for the
VSS module. The parts department can order it for me, but they don't
have the number readily at hand for 2005 Accord LX 4Cyl 5M.
If anyone could reply with the tool or part number I'd be much obliged.

"Chippers" still working on '05 VTEC ECM? by
Charles Lasitter
I took a look at PGMFI and did some googling but I have not been able
to determine whether our EPROM reprogramming croud has figured out the
code for the '05 models.
Ideas?
And: Where did they put the ECM on the '05 Accords?
Thanks.

Insurance: Mods & Underwriters ever "mix"? by
Charles Lasitter
After tripping over a few horror stories about insurance coverage
being declined or withdrawn due to performance mods I've read about
here, I knew I had to do a bit more research.
One guy at Tire Rack was obviously a bit eager to sell me a
suspension kit, as he proceeded to tell me that he had...

Horns: How loud? by
Charles Lasitter
Anybody have any idea how loud (decibels @ one meter, or some known
distance) the OEM horns are for any year of Accord? I have an '05 and
it's one of the specs no one seems to have readily at hand.

Shifting for fuel economy with the i4 (K24A4-i-VTEC) by
Charles Lasitter
I've had a hard time finding a good resource that explains the best
shifting points for highest fuel economy using this engine under
various loads, so here is a hypothetical set of test conditions
(substitute your own specs if you have some relevant numbers):
Load: '05 Accord LX, 5M (unloaded...

'05-'06 i-VTEC HP: Any real change? by
Charles Lasitter
I understand that horsepower number are being generated differently
between the two years for this engine, but what I don't know is this:
Was there any actual change AT ALL to the engine or the program that
tells the engine how to make it's horsepower?
Listing as new the "high performance intake...

Make it easier to get safety features. by
Charles Lasitter
It seems that if you want really good safety features with a Honda,
you've got to go out and spend big bucks for a bunch of stuff you may
not want or need, and I think this is unfortunate.
I've got an '05 Accord LX, which I like, but it seems that the best
safety features aren't available unless...

2006: K24A4 / J30A4 names the same? by
Charles Lasitter
With the changes for:
"high performance intake and exhaust valve timing"
On these engines, did Honda keep the model numbers the same?
Too small a difference to change the nomenclature?

Paging Randolph: VSS info. by
Charles Lasitter
You had a most informative post about the VSS. I've got an '05 Accord
LX manual transmission and I'd like to find out about the VSS for it
compared to the '94 Accord .PDF file posted.
I would guess that it would be similar, but just in case you knew where
a similar .PDF would be for my vehicle,...

Handling/Ride: +Rubber/-Unsprung weight? by
Charles Lasitter
I'm already excited about the prospect of new alloys that will shave
seven pounds off the corners, or a pound or two less depending on the
plus sizing factor.
Now I'm seeking advice about diminishing marginal returns as regards
more rubber on the road versus further reducing unsprung weight.
My...

Accord LX '05: Daytime Running Lights? by
Charles Lasitter
This safety feature is standard on Canadian models but not available in
the US. I have read about people ordering the required module from
Hamsar and even found a site with instructions for installing it.
What I can't seem to locate though is some outlet in the part for the
US. Anyone else tried...

Which calipers for USA made '05 Accord LX? by
Charles Lasitter
Apparently one kind of caliper (and therefore pad) was made for models
in the USA, and another for cars built in Japan.
Anyone know if it was the Akebono or Nissan calipers that went on the
US models? And: Any way of identifying the two calipers visually?
TIA!

Improving ride on '05 Accord LX by
Charles Lasitter
4cyl 5M, used mostly for city driving and the roads are in poor
condition. If I gladly give up tread life and more grudginly give up a
bit in the performance areas, what's the best way to soften up the ride
a bit?
Shocks? Suspension changes? Spend big bux on tires without
hesitation?
Anyone...

Ugly MPG surprises after tire / wheel upgrades? by
Charles Lasitter
I'm contemplating upgrading wheels and tires on a new LX 4cyl 5M, and
the Tirerack surveys really don't offer much info regarding fuel
economy of tires.
I'd rather not give up more than 1-2 MPG in the search for better
handling, ride or other performance aspects, so I'd like to hear from
people...

OE steel wheel weight for Accords? by
Charles Lasitter
I can't seem to come up with a table or chart showing the weight of the
OE steel wheel for my '05 LX 4Cly. It's the last number I need for
figuring combine tire / wheel weight of upgrades versus OE.
Thanks in advance for pointing me to a relevant URL.

"Curb Crud" vs handling considerations? by
Charles Lasitter
Tires have specs for section width, rim width, and rim width range.
(Plus lots of other stuff).
Looking at a Pirelli PZero Nero 225/45-WR17, it lists a rim width of
7.5" and a rim width range of 7-9".
If this wide tire were mounted on a 17x7" wheel, it would seem that
the sidewalls would...

Hondas speedometers. Use DRAC modules or what? by
Charles Lasitter
A few decades ago when I worked on cars life was so simple. You had
a speedometer cable attached to a gear in the tranny, and if the
speedometer was wrong, you just changed the number of teeth on the
gear until you were happy with the result. That was then ...
Today I know that some cars use a...

OE Steelies Weigh? The answer is ... by
Charles Lasitter
After quite a bit of searching, I found this site:
http://www.wheelweights.net/
Which has mostly only alloy wheel weights, but just enough info on
steel wheels to approximate the weight of 15x6.5 wheels at 22 pounds.
It also means that affordable alloys (carefully selected) can give
you a...

Six-Speed + i4: Why not? by
Charles Lasitter
I really love this engine, and think that an LX or EX in this
configuration would be a welcome addition for Honda. With the bump
in horsepower for the i4 in 2006, I'm not sure I know what I'd do
with the horsepower in the v6.
Can anyone here peer into their crystal ball and see this combination...
