Genset voltage reg: capacitor vs. AVR by
Existential Angst[_2_]
What are the pro's/cons of each?
One pro for caps is that they are cheaper! The AVR ditty for my unit would
cost another near-$400.
The pro for AVR is, presumably, much tighter voltage regulation with load.
But mebbe AVR has its limits ito ruggedness?
The voltage swing on my genset is 250 -...

Diesel vs. Gasoline - why one preferred over another?? by
Mark Levitski
Know nothing of cars (electrical person) - used public transportation all my
life.
Why is that 95% of passenger cars in the US are gasoline, yet diesel used in
much of Europe? I read somewhere diesel is more efficient, plus unlike gas
engine even UNMODIFIED diesel unit can run on "biofuels"...

survey: Best "rubber" protection/preservative by
tsterkel
Did a search on this topic and it looks like there has been sporatic
traffic on it. I would like to push the envelope on this.
Hypothesis: Trim, openning rubber or EPDM should be cleaned, coated to
preserve it. In addition it should be lightly lubricated where a moving
part is involved (such as...

Slick 50 - FROM THE BEGINNING? by

First, a thank you to all who contributed to making my Ford Contour last

Now I've got a 2004 Ford Taurus, purchased in February at 20K miles
(Certified pre-owned, 6 years/75K warranty). I'm ready for my first oil
change. Having a debate with the dealer mechanic. I...

Carburetor EGR port question by

Does anyone have any idea how much vacuum should develop at an EGR port
on a carburetor with the engine revved to about 2000rpm?
I installed a brand spanking new Holley 2280 carburetor on my 87 Dodge
Dakota V6 engine and failed the NO part of the California smog test. The
HC and CO tests...

The Way to Paradise by
algagaa
We are all in quest of true happiness. In this world, the idea of
true/perfect happiness is not feasible because this world is
inevitably doomed to total annihilation. True happiness is found only
in dwelling upon Paradise, and enjoying its blessings. However, none
would enter Paradise except...

Apropos of some recent diesel discussions, diesel fuel all by itself should
give 13% more mpgs, just from the higher btu's per gallon alone.
And, funnily enough, diesel appears to be about 13% more expensive at the...
