re.Koi Food by Tristin
I guess this means I should stop feeding my cats Rangen koi food then huh? ;-) Let me see if I understand this new concept of feeding varioius species a "like" food. Cats get cat food such as Wally Wolds SpecialKitty or Purina Dogs get Old Roys' Doggie food such as Purina or Nutro Birds get bird...

fish euthanasia by HK_Newbie
Alright, I've pretty much given up hope on one of my pond goldfish on ever getting better, so I moved him into an indoor tank (after acclimating him to the temp change) and waited a week for what I assume to be a severe slim bladder disorder to heal. He was laying either on the top or bottom of...

Help wanted: Pump CONSTANTLY clogs by scs0
My pump constantly clogs up. In fact just today I hooked up a new pre- screen to the filter and the damn pump was choking within an hour of hooking the new thing up. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, this pump constantly clogs up. Use the protector that comes with the pump: it clogs. Use the...

Water lily problem - brown leaves by Gabriel
I wonder if anyone on this group can provide some advice. I have a newish pond - it's been filled for about two months. The water lilies I have bought have suffered from major discolouration of the leaves within a week or so of putting them into the pond. Basically the leaves start going brown in...

Sick koi and need advice (with pics) by scs0
I have a koi with an unusual growth on its tail fin that looks like a praying mantis egg sac. The fish also has hazy white areas on its body. On its back there is a large opaque oval and I noticed some smaller areas on its head. I first noticed issues with this fish in the spring of 2005 and put...

Timer to turn pond pump on at dawn and off at dusk? by Michael Shaffer
All the photoelectric timers I've seen are opposite of what I need. Is there a timer that turns the power on at daybreak and off at dusk?

Galvanized Pond For Temporary Safekeeping by JB
Hello! A few weeks back I asked for suggestions on what to do with my koi and goldfish. You see I'm moving and do not have a pond at my new home. I'm not sure where to build the new pond and wanted to live there for a while to let me see where the place tells me a pond is needed. Over the weekend...

What Are You Feeding & Where are You Buying Your Koi Food This Season? by JB
I visited a couple of web sites pricing food for this season (Aqua Mart for Hakari Staple & Western Pond for Sho Koi) and noticed a jump in prices. Between the two, Western Pond was offering 10 lbs of Sho Koi for $56.98, including shipping costs. This seems about $7.00 higher than last year. What...

Jo Ann Burke is the leading expert in the U.S. on health, diseases and treatment of Goldfish. Jo Ann asked me to remind people that while she has retired from selling GF (and sold the business to Ken Fischer http://dandyorandas.com/) she has NOT retired from helping people with sick GF and koi...

Scale regrowth by Gary
I was given a large ( almost 24 inches) Koi. It had lost numerous scales on either side. I believe the cause was trauma rather than a disease process (there are 2 long lesions of 3 rows wide of scale loss) . I have had the fish for over a month and it is doing just fine. My question is. Will these...

Harbor Freight.. sucks! by Gareee©
Just got an email reply from them, after asking them what happened to my order last week. The pump is backordered til June 26th, (assuming they come in then), and the lights are backordered till aug. pth! I just told them to cancel my order, and f I still needed them then, that I would reorder.

More Harbor Freight Sucks.... by Gareee©
Remember about 2 months ago, I was trying to order a pump and underwater lights from them? They were out of stock, and didn't expect any of the items in for 2 months, so I cancelled the orders. JUST found out today that they filled one of the items this week, AFTER I cancelled both orders! (the...

Rid-X in ponds? by Steve
Recently I talked with several people who have started using Rid-X septic tank treatment in their ponds to help digest the muck in the bottom. They say it doesn't harm the fish or plants and is keeping their ponds much cleaner. Have any of you tried this? Is it really safe?

Can pond water make a dog/cat sick? by dkat
Someone I know just tore out their preformed pond because they thought their dog got sick from drinking the water (I'm not complaining since I now have a new pond...I just have to decide where to put it and start digging). Does anyone know if this is possible? DK

Winterizing Pond - Heaters by MC
After much research, I've decided to use solar bubble wrap pool cover floated on the top of my pond and a titanium tube-style heater. The pool cover will have a border of about an inch to allow gases to escape. My questions a 1) How do you use one of these acquarium-type heaters? I would...
