Is there an on demand 4 wheel drive car (not truck or suv)? by bob
I like the sure footedness of an all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, but where I live (seattle), I only need this a few days per year. The rest of the time, an all wheel drive just uses up more gas unnecessarily. Is there a passenger car that is normally front wheel drive but can be switched into...

Tires that actually last by AK[_2_]
I bought some Yokohama tires at Discount *ires. They have a 60K warranty. But after 15K miles, the tire tread indicator is already showing. Are there tires that actually last to their rated warranties? Thanks, Andy

Alignment question by Ajanta
How often car needs to be aligned? (I have Toyota Camry 98 V6 LE ) Should it be combined with oil change and tire rotation, or is needed less frequently? Does any chain (or local garage in Chicago area) have a great "lifetime" alignment deal?

Follow-up: 2000 Contour miss and Check Engine Light by Craig Williams
A couple of weeks ago, I posted the below, and got a couple of suggestions. I put the original spark plug back in cylinder 1, checked under the hood in the dark, disconnected the battery cable so the computer would re-learn the car, etc. but the miss is still there. It is intermittent, though, and...

Problem with our sable by bubblegummom
We have a 1989 (I think, sorry) Mercury Sable. The wheels have a special lug nut that requires a special tool to take it off. Somewhere back there the tool got lost. Now if we have a flat tire we're sunk. Any suggestions? I wish somehow we could get them off and just replace them with plain ones,...

GM3.1L no spark by boardjunkie
As per sublect line.....no spark. Verified crank sensor working (.7v pulses), swapped ignition module with a known good one, and have 12v at the module input. Why not use crankshaft weights on any vee engine? by [email protected]
Hi - I'm trying figure out if crankshaft counterweights can be effectively used on other engines besides 90 degree v8s with crossplane cranks. In reading about crossplane v8s, it is explained that the crankshaft causes pistons to go in opposite directions at each end of the engine which would...

a post I made just recently reminded me, I used to have a timing light, I think it was made by a company called Optilux, it didn't look like a regular timing light but like a big flashlight. It had a built in dwell meter and tach (digital) among other things - might have had more features but...

Bent Clutch Diaphram fingers, how does it happen? by phaeton
A friend of mine's gf has a VW Jetta (fully manual transmission), I think an 05 or around that vintage. He goes to 'rescue' her because she can't shift out of 1st gear- depressing the clutch doesn't disengage it, and once she pulls it out of gear she can't put it into any other gear with the...

Hi all, am thrashing on Jeep again... vehicle is mostly rust free (surprisingly, since it's from PA) but I've started ripping the old rear bumper and gas tank skid plate off so as to install a new rear bumper that isn't made from poop and fail, and has proper D-ring tabs and a Class 3...
