Tire Plus-Sizing Question: Why MUST Tire/Wheel Get WIDER When +Sizing? by [email protected]
Traditional "Plus-Sizing" involves changes of dimensions in two directions: The plus-size rim and tire both get wider, and the sidewall of the tire becomes shorter("lower profile"), maintaining correct speedometer ratios. My perception of plus-sizing is that the only thing that should change size...

how much energy needed to inflate a tyre? by Orson Cart
I believe it is E=PV/2 So for a tyre running at 200 kPa, you need 100 Joules for every litre of space inside the tyre. Now a portable 12 V compressor takes about 1000 seconds to pump up a tyre on a medium-sized car. You probably have to pause as these contraptions get hot, but active time is 1000...

Want to understand car behavior with kaput battery by brassplyer
I wanted to see if I could rejuvenate a battery that's dead and several years old but never saw much use. Sat in a car that mostly sits in the garage. I stuck it in my '89 Toyota Cressida, cleaned the terminals on the battery and the cable ends, hooked them up and jumped it with the good battery....

A couple years back I rebuilt my grandmas old '89 Honda Civic. She doesn't drive anymore, and I rarely drive due to health problems, but my parents have been use it quite often. A few days ago my Dad informed me that it wasn't steering properly, and I noticed the front right wheel was visibly...

Over speed indicator? by Paul in Houston TX
Many US cars from the 1960's had a buzzer that you could set for any speed. Go over that speed and the buzzer would go off. It looks like no US made cars have that now. Anyone know of an aftermarket one?

fuel economy improvements of turbocharged engines by techman41973
A few auto companies are switching to turbo charged 4 cylinder engines to replace a naturally aspirated V6's. Hyundai is a great example. In the new Santa Fe SUV and mid sized sonata, engine choices include a naturally aspirated 2.4 liter 4 cylinder at around 200hp or a 260-260hp turbocharged...

2000 Bravada ABS light by klem kedidelhopper
Short story, I've been driving for almost 50 years and I've never needed or appreciated ABS. My ABS started acting up a couple of years ago, probably due to one or more bad wheel sensors, (a known issue on these cars). I pulled the fuse, the ABS light came on and there were no more intermittent...

Temporary rain visor? by yong321
I'd like to have rain visors (window deflectors). But I only want it when I park my car in a parking lot, and take it down when I leave. Is there such a thing? Can any rain visors on the market be temporarily installed and be removed whenever I like?
