Advice for stripped threads upstream oxygen sensor exhaust manifold by Arlen Holder
Car is just bought by a kid just learning to drive (he's 16). 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ES Neighbors asked me to teach him how to replace the oxygen sensor (due to emissions code). The threads were stripped and "filled" with some kind of hardened "metal paste". The new part is a Denso 234-4739...

Why can't people figure out warp versus runout versus disc thickness variation by Arlen Holder
Why, for Christs' sake, can't people figure out the difference in the English language between warp versus runout or disc thickness variation? There has been a perennial argument since the 70's when someone got the notion that brake rotor (aka disc) "warp" is the same as "dtv" (which it's not),...

Opinions on this suspected VW dealer repair ripoff by [email protected]
Posted by a Facebook friend. I have general shadetree mech awareness but have never specifically worked on a VW. Whaddya think? Is there any way the bearings could be so shot they'd impact the brakes and there wouldn't be obvious symptoms and a competent tech wouldn't realize it when working on...

reman vendor quality? by [email protected]
(In particular, I need a rack for my Cobalt.) Is there any sort of consensus on whether different reman companies (Cardone, AAE, BAP, Delco ...) have good or bad reps? For my rack, I find them all in the $150-175 (+ core) price range at RockAuto , but Cardone has what appears to be the same part...

how does the map get into the radio? by micky
In a new car radio with GPS, how does the map get into the radio? Does it receive cellular data, wifi, or come already installed? What if you want to install the next year's version? My current 2005 toyota has a map on DVD, and it's not got all the roads, even the ones that existed then. ...

Difficult starting by Ivan Vegvary[_2_]
2008 Kia Rondo, V6 Starts in an instant EXCEPT when at gas station for a fill up. Takes over 30 seconds of cranking, stalls 2-3 times and runs crappy for about one minute. Very repeatable. Is the gas cap part of the computer system? Thanks for advice.

Repair dashboard by Percival P. Cassidy[_2_]
Our recently purchased 2015 Prius has a couple of blemishes on the top of the dashboard that look as though the previous owner might have had an iPass or EZPass (or similar automatic toll payment device) mounted there with adhesive and then simply pulled the device off rapidly, taking the vinyl...

BB 366 - rockers clatter; oil pressure but no oil at rockers by [email protected]
Hi - I'm working on my farm's chevy 87 c-70 w/ 366 v8 (which came out of an early 1970's era truck). The motor runs and has good oil pressure (according to the gauge) but there is no oil coming out of the pushrod tubes and the valves are very noisy as a result. What would cause this to be? There...

Alternator connector glowing red hot after jumping veh with other battery by [email protected]
My 99 Explorer had been running fine. Tonight I left my lights on, killed the battery - which is about a week old from Walmart. Boosted it with another battery I have that happens to be good. Car fired up but the connection nut with the rubber boot at the top of the alternator started glowing red...
