Torque Converter clutch won't stay locked up by
Craig
94 XLT with the 4ALD automatic with 185K, but completely rebuilt tranny
about 10K ago. Lately strange things with torque converter lockup. It
usually works normally, with lockup right at 45 mph, and in and out
like it should depending on load. If I stay under 55 or so, it is fine
all day. If I get...

94 XLT cruise control vs trailer brake actuator by
Craig
I hooked up a new trailer brake actuator that required tapping into the
cold side of the brake light wiring at the brake pedal switch. It also
required a good ground, which I didn't have the first time I tested the
actuator. The ground I chose was at the dash, and was not sufficient.
The actuator...

radiator coolant 1997 xlt by
fogdog
I checked the radiator coolant today and there was none in there so I
figured that was not good. I went to Pep Boys and got some engine
coolant (liquid is green in color) and added it to the resevoir. Is
there a ratio of water to coolant that I need?

Rear End Sag on 02 Explorer by
Big Shoe
Years ago I used air shocks on my station wagon when I pulled a camper
trailer. 450 pounds hitch load is pretty heavy, not sure what the
rating of the hitch is, but it's probably worth checking. Sounds like
maybe you need a load equalizing hitch rather than the class 3. Back
to air shocks, they...

1991 Ford Explorer by
Redneck_87
I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my 1991 Ford Explorer
just died on me and wouldnt start back. At first they thought it was
the fuel pump but it was working fine. Then they thought it might
have something to do with the plugs, which i changed them. They were
burned out but new...

Oil Presure Sender - conversion to linear from switch by
Steven L. Finberg
I'm having problems with an intermittent oil pressure indication
on a 99 Explorer Sport with a 4.0L SOHC, at cold start up.
Rather than just replace the pressure switch sensor it seems attractive
to make the gauge in the dash a real linear indicator as suggested in
theses earlier...

Radio Noise from Heater Controls by
Steven L. Finberg
Recently I've noticed radio interfearance originating from the
standard heater temperature control. It is most noticeable
when listening to relatively weak AM stations. It is most
apparent when the Explorer is cold and the control fully
clockwise. The whinning interfearance can be "tuned"...

alarm chirping by
c11r28
I have a 98 XLT and for some reason when I arm the alarm, it only does one
"chirp" where it used to chirp twice. Same if I just power lock the doors
before I close it. It used to chirp once when I pressed the power lock then
again when I closed the door...what happened?

98 XLT rear axle/bearing float. by
David
In trying to diagnose a bad shake/grind/drumming noise from under my high
mileage 4x4 Exploder, I took off the rear wheels and rotors (disks) and
calipers. I noted that if I pulled and pushed the wheel studs I could feel 2
to 3 mm (1/8") or so of play. This is not rocking the wheel type of...

Dead radio display by
Watton
Yes, I tried fixing it myself by doing some things I found posted. It
lasted about a day and then I never saw the display again. I ended up
doing the "Save My Sanity" program at www.shareamemory.com/radio. They
didn't say anything about my own meager attempts to repair it and I still
got my $20...

Grinding noise in front end? by
[email protected]
I've got a strange grinding noise comming from the front-end of my '97
expedition. Seems to
only happen when turning corners and accelerating. I've also noticed
that the ride has gotten rougher.
I'm planning on taking it in soon to have it looked at as the problem
seems to have gotten worse...
