4.0 SOHC Tranny oil change 50KKm or 250Kkm? by Peter
Ford's "Scheduled Maintenance Service Guide" indicates that for 1996 to 2004 the explorer 4.0 only needs "transmission service" every 250Kkm! That's about 155,000 miles! It goes on to list a nunmer if transmissions and vehicles which do require fluid change at 50Kkm. Guess what wasn't there. No...

direct wire radar installation by JiggaHertz
I have a 2004 mountaineer and I'm trying to install my radar detector using a direct wiring adapter. I need to tap into a wire by the fuse panel that is live when the car is running and dead when it is off. I guess I need to get a volt meter and poke around, but I was just wondering if anyone...

2004 transmissions by cyclone
There was a story on CBS late news ( in NY) last night about Ford having serious problems with shifting into reverse on 2004 Explorers. Sounds like some units ( they said up to 10% of production) can hesitate up to 5 seconds before clunking into reverse or back to forward. Has anybody heard...

Off topic CVT tranny question for Jim Warman or others... by CRAngelo
This question is slightly off topic as it pertains to the new CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) used on the new Ford Freestyle Crossover SUV, but I think the discussion will be interesting to all. The idea has been around for a while, but this is one of the first actual applications on a...

Reverse light wire - 2004 Ford Explorer by Charles O'Neill
I've just purchased some inexpensive auxiliary back-up lights to mount on the hitchbar of my 2004 Ford Explorer XLT. I need to find a convenient spot to splice a relay connection into the reverse light wire. Does anyone know: a) what color(s) the reverse light wire on a 2004 Explorer is? b) is...

1996 Explorer XLT Rattle at 2000 RPM by icd
I have a 96 Explorer XLT with 115,000 miles on it Recently it has developed a rattle (which I assume is coming from the engine) at between 2000 and 2500 rpm. The engine check light has not come on. I have taken it to two independant mechanics. Neither has any good suggestion. Has anyone got any...

91 power windows by srv
RikiTikiTavi, Does your 91 rear power windows use a cable mechanism (instead of a gear) to operate the window? If so, can you give me some idea as to how to remove the motor from the cable? Thanks
