scan tools, sensor readings? by
George[_23_]
(04 Cavalier)
I have a Gore Proscan OBD2 interface module, which lets you display
various sensor readings on a PC. Some of these (eg, rpm, TPS, ...) work
fine. But, ...
(1) Some sensors, which I know the PCM reads (eg, fuel tank pressure),
seem not available for display.
(2) Some sensors that...

brake upgrades effect on ESC by
[email protected]
Cars today have ABS, EBD, ESC, "active city stop", self-parking
and more.
I am wondering what happens if you upgrade the brakes (not with
OEM brakes). About 10 years ago, I put bigger rotors and master
cylinder on a car, and it did not upset the ABS, but that is
a lot simpler than the modern stuff....

trouble codes: P0440 vs P0455 by
George[_23_]
(04 Cavalier) I'm getting P0455. New gas cap didn't help, & I didn't
see anything flagrant on visual inspection.
Reading about the EVAP codes, it seems that P0455 means a "large leak",
while P0440 means the self-test can't reach its target tank vacuum ...
which I'd think would also imply a...

What does the EHSR mean for my alternator bearing rebuild by
Misha
I'm planning on rebuilding my Bosch 120 amp alternator.
One of the two bearings is a 6304 EHSR 2RS1 c3 - 17x52x17mm
I know the 2RS means two rubber shields.
And the 6304 is the size.
While the C3 is the radial clearance.
But what does the EHSR indicate?

Make it harder to press gas pedal by
[email protected]
To solve the problem that a beginner may accidentally press the gas pedal when he means to step on the brake, I think one easy way is to replace the spring holding the gas pedal with one with a higher force constant. Once he's driven the car for some months, change it back. This won't prevent the...

How Much Can CNN Get Wrong About F1 Engines, Physics In One Article? by
Ubiquitous
I think CNN must be hiring Amish kids on Rumspringa for its motorsports
writers. That's really the only way you could explain the rich, lavish
ignorance of how cars work as demonstrated in this article about turbo
engines returning to F1.
The basic facts are there — F1 regulations are calling...

How to test 1995 Grand Voyager if the radiator fan has 2 speeds or not ? by
antalo
The fan does not come on if the AC is not on. It only seeams to work high
speed. Measuring the fan connections all 4 pins read 1.5 Ohms with a VOM.
The relays seem to work OK, because I switched them around and the high always
working. The NAPA sales man says all fans have only one speed, he...

FWD cars ruin brick paving? by
[email protected]
My wife has a friend who has been doing brick paving for about 20 years.
I asked him why you see so many brick driveways that have spread out
after a few years, was this due to the soil or just shoddy workmanship?
I mentioned that Indianapolis racetrack was once brick paved, and it stood up
to the...

03 Tahoe knock sensor code by
[email protected]
We have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3 V8 engine. We recently got a check engine light for a knock sensor. The message on the scanner was "Knock sensor reading low voltage". I have read about this problem a bit and it seems like the harness inside the engine, rather than the sensor itself usually...
