Need New Windshield by
ll
'96 Ford Explorer XLT. The windshield is badly cracked
and needs replacement. We're going to pay for this ourselves
and are not interested in used parts from a yard.
Is there anything unusual about the windshield that the
replacement glass company needs to know about?
How can we be sure that...

1996 Ford Explorer Heater Vent by
Hynesd2004
On my 1996 Ford Explorer, the heater blows hot air in vent and air
conditioning mode. In Max Air cool air does blow.
Heater works but temperature selection does not lower temperature of air
blown in.

Turning off the auto door lock function (How, please?) by
Jjsegr
I have tried to solicit an answer to this in another (a.a.f) newsgroup, but I
simply got replies that, "It isn't a feature on your car". I was asking about
my own ('99) Sable and a friend's 2004 Explorer. We both are annoyed with the
doors automatically locking when the cars begin to move...

2000 Parking Brake Doesn't Work by
[email protected]
I park on a sloped driveway and my 2000 Explorer parking brake can't
hold the vehicle in place. I've been to the dealer twice to have the
brake adjusted and the result is that the brake feels much firmer and
it holds well. After a mon th or two it loosens up to the point where
the brake can't hold....

Opinions on 2002 Explorer by
Jonah
The time has come to retire my 1996 Explorer. The transfer case just
went, and after 160,000 relatively trouble free miles, I'm planning to
cut my losses and go for a newer model. I need to stay under $20K, so
I'm considering a 2002 or possibly 2003. I know 2002 was a redesign
year and...

1995 Headlights by
Len
I recently replaced the headlights on my 1995 EB, and am not satisfied
with results. I plan on getting the Sylvania Silverstars, but the big
problem seems to be the "yellowed" lens assembly. I see the same
problem on most older Explorers. Any information on replacement/
aftermarket lens assemblies...

93 explore brake question by
david hindes
Hello,
I have a 1993 ford Explore 4x4 and I am wondering how hard it is to replace
the brake cylinder. I have a leaky one that needs to be replaced and was
planning on doing this on the weekend.
Thanks in advance.

ABS light 2002 Ford Explorer by
coop999
The ABS light started coming on in my 2002 Ford Explorer. I am not having
any braking problems. With all of the ice and snow, I knoww that the ABS
is working. I thought that it might have been the fluid level, so I topped
it off, but no help.
Is there some inexpensive sensor that I can try...

99 front brake pads replaced, question on old pads by
Mikepier
At 36,600 miles, I changed the front pads for the first time. It was
fairly easy. The rotors were in good shape and did not cut them.
However I noticed on the old inner pads there were grooves on the
lower 1/2 inch of the pad, having the same outline as the rotor. But
the rotor was smooth. Is it...

Backlights by
Steve
I've lost the backlights on the 3 cruise control switches mounted on the rhs
steering wheel, the 2 on the lhs switches are still illuminated.
So, I assume that a globe has blown - any idea on where it is and how I get
to it?
This isn't going to be one of those $150 jobs to replace a 15 cent globe...

120K transmission issues by
JnB
97 Sport, final shift into OD seems to be taking longer than usual. Has had
fluid/filter change done around 90k at dealer. Recommendations for service
to correct this? Not looking for tranny replacement/big bucks repair, but
would like to keep it in the family for a few more years. TIA!

power steering that works sometimes? by
DIY'er
I've got a '97 XLT V6 w/ 87k. I noticed a problem this fall; after
letting the truck sit for a couple of months the power steering got
intermittent - it gets easy and hard as you turn the wheel. After
driving it a mile or so, the steering felt better, but still acted up a
couple times breifly. I...

94 explorer very hard to start after it sets for 36 to 48 hours or
longer. Once started it will stop and start allday until it sets

The instrument panel lights where out so I checked the fuse and it was OK.
Then I put in another fuse for the hell of it and it worked for a day then
no panel lights and the new fuse is still good. Then my neighbor informs me
I have no tail lights. So I have not panel and no tail lights. How do...

Long term storage (3 months or more) by
xenman
I'm about to store my 2000 Explorer for 3 or more months. I know I need to
disconnect the batter, and add stabilizer to the fuel. I have some more
questions.
1. Is there an oil additive to help prevent the oil from 100% draining into
the oil pan? The objective is to keep things lubricated.
2....

99 - Transmission clunk during slowing down by
Paul
99 Limited:
I've recently noticed a slight 'clunk' (both a sound and slight bumping
feeling) from the transmission when slowing down to take a turn or
apporching a stop. This only seems to happen when I'm going slow (< 30
mph) prior to the turn/stop. Fluid levels are fine. Anyone have...

diagnosing clutch issues by
[email protected]
OK, I seem to have some issues getting into 1st gear on a 1996 manual
4WD sport. Also you have to delay some to move to other gears. Pedal
seems 'springy', or close to normal - hard to say.
When I switch the engine off, it slides into 1st effortlessly.
The clutch fluid level is correct.
I had a...
