"Jack rabbit" starts give best mileage by
Misterbeets
I was reading in the Bosch Gasoline Engine Management book tips for
improving fuel efficiency, and was surprised to see wide throttle
acceleration recommended, at least up to 2000 RPM, when you are
supposed to change gears.
Exactly the opposite of what I grew up hearing. Anyone know the
thinking...

condenstion on windows by
[email protected]
My Geo metro has had, for the last week or so since it's been very cold
out, water/condensation on the inside of the windows, making it
difficult to see; it's hard to even wipe it all off cleanly. And as of
yesterday I've noticed there is smoke/steam(?) coming ever so slightly
from the vent on top...

Cooling System Woes...Need Help by
[email protected]
Depending on the brand the stops leak type products tend to become
liquid at high temperatures and harden when exposed to air.
You could try boiling the thermostat housing in a pan of water and see
if it softens.
Some of the housing I have seen over the years are really rough on the
inside. If it...

Montero Sport - spark plugs by
Frank
2001 Montero Sport with 3.0 liter engine. At 65,000 miles, I suspect
it's time to change the plugs, but dang!! Do I really have to pull the
fuel injection to get to them? Please, someone, tell me there's a
trick to make this easier.

Cooling System Woes...Need Help by
Al Bundy
It is surely not the stop leak product. That material simply cannot do
what you are seeing. A casting flaw is very likely. If the flaw has
caused no problem in 32 years, why would it cause a problem now? And a
thermostat housing should cost very little to replace anyway. Unless
it's a major...

Cooling System Woes...Need Help by
[email protected]
I don't know that you can ever get the stuff out, short of pulling the
cylinder head off. The stuff is designed to glue itself into small
passages. I just pulled the head off my car and saw that when the
previous owner had use a can or two or radiator stop leak, they managed
to totally plug two...

I have a '73 Ford E100 van. I tried to repair a small leak with stop leak,
but after two minutes, I had to turn off the engine because of a larger
hole that opened up. I flushed the system with water and replaced the
radiator. I found a metal like substance in the thermostat housing...

Checking Antifreeze in a 2001 Gallant by
frank1492
My GF went out and bought an antifreeze tester. It's the kind with the
short rubber hose. She says when she went to check it from the
overflow, the hose wasn't long enough. (The level was properly
between the fill marks.) She says she then removed the radiator
cap and couldn't get the hose in as...

way to catch these is to drive around with a scan tool
hooked up to the system....not practical at all with

99 Ford Ranger Harsh Shift by
[email protected]
I have a 99 Ranger with a 4.0L V6 and a 5-Speed AOD Transmission. The
transmission sometimes randomly hesitates on 1-2 or 2-3 shifts,
sometimes jerking the truck and sometimes the 1-2 shift will be so hard
that the U-joint pops in the rear. Doesn't break, just makes a loud
popping sound.
Also, if...

bad alternator? by
Alex Rodriguez
Late last night my friend asked me to check out his car, 1988 Honda Accord.
The alternator light had come on. I checked the belt, it was tight and not
slipping. I had a volt meter, so I checked the voltage at the battery. It
was 11.7 volts. This leads me to believe the alternator may be bad. ...

Cadillac Eldorado Electrical Problem (Alt Voltage Fluctuating) by

Hello:
I have a Cadillac with an alternator that is producing an output
voltage that wanders all over the place. I posted this problem not
too long ago, and someone advised me to check my grounding at several
nodes, which I have done. The problem still remains, so I am looking
at the possibility...
