direct wire radar installation by
JiggaHertz
I have a 2004 mountaineer and I'm trying to install my radar detector
using a direct wiring adapter. I need to tap into a wire by the fuse
panel that is live when the car is running and dead when it is off. I
guess I need to get a volt meter and poke around, but I was just wondering
if anyone...

4.0 SOHC Tranny oil change 50KKm or 250Kkm? by
Peter
Ford's "Scheduled Maintenance Service Guide" indicates that for 1996
to 2004 the explorer 4.0 only needs "transmission service" every
250Kkm! That's about 155,000 miles! It goes on to list a nunmer if
transmissions and vehicles which do require fluid change at 50Kkm.
Guess what wasn't there. No...

starts hard...intermitent by
Tim Callery
I have a 98 explorer..4.0 6 cylinder.
My problem is the car normally starts fine but lately about once a week or
so it cranks over but won't start till I pump the crap out of the throttle.
Then it stalls and I go through the starting process 4-5 times and then it
seems to run fine. It will run ok...

Electric to manual transfer case shifter by
Bob
I'm converting the auto hubs on my '94 explorer to warn manual hubs. I'd
also like to replace the troublesome electric 4 wheel drive button on
dash set up to a maunal floor lever. Is this possible? advisable? easy
to do?
1994 explorer part time 4WD with automatic transmission.
Thanks.

98 Explorer Timing Chain/Tensioner/Cassette/4.0L by
Paul Scrutton
Rear cassette - like a bicycle? How about that.
I'd get the code and seek diagnosis from another place before going back to
that dealer. Engine codes are typically emission component related.
I thought the timing chain didn't generally need to be replaced until the
engine was rebuilt anyhow. Why...

'99explorer vibration by
[email protected]
I just noticed my '99explorer problem with vibration, which goes away
when I fill up a full fuel tank or having 4 passengers in the car.
What is wrong with the car? I can not maintain a full tank all the
time, or keep 4 passengers in the car either. Thank in advance for any
input.

Brake pad for '03 by
Sy Cohen
I have a 2003 XLT V6. The dealer advised me that at around 20K miles ( next
service ) I probably would need front pads. Tipically, I try not to have
the rotors turned when I replace pads. Basically, the rotors usually don't
have enough mass to begin with, and after turning, even once, they...

Shocks and Brake Pads for '92 by
Ulysses
Hi. I've been Googleing and arrived at the conclusion that Bilstein's would
probably be a good choice for new front shocks. Everyone was saying that
they were about $50 but I'm only finding them for about $70 each. Are these
good shock and does anyone have a better (cheaper) source? I don't do...

FS: 1993 Ford Explorer Limited by
[email protected]
Truly the end of an era. My 93 explorer limited has served me beyond
well, but I will be moving to a smaller, newer car due to gas reasons
(not the farting variety - she guzzles gasoline). So, I am selling
this super-reliable beast of a truck for $2,000 or best offer, so that
I can downgrade to a...

03 explorer radio swap question? by
George K.
I have a 2003 explorer eddie bauer with the premium sound package and the
factory sub in the rear. I was wondering if it was possible to swap my radio
with one with the navigation system from an 04 or 05 expedition. Are the
radios the same size in the expedition as in my explorer? Would it go...

whining noise coming from rear by
Mike
Howdy,
I took my 1995 Explorer into the Ford dealer last week to have the front /
rear brake pads replaced / rotors turned.
They also replaced the idler pulley (see previous post, it was making a
whaling noise).
So, now that my pulley isn't making noise, I can now hear a new whining
noise (I...
