Faded Paint by hmmm
Hi all I've got a '95 red Miata and the plastic nose/bumper has been faded/oxidized for some time now, and the car's performance seems to have slowed down the more it faded. Now it seems my Red Miata is being out-performed by the normally slower White Miatas. Bottom line...not good for my ego...

REALLY SCARY TV show! by XS11E[_1_]
Just saw a pretty terrifying TV program, PBS's MotorWeek, believe it or not. Take a look: http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/fyi.shtml An excerpt: ====================================================================== 17-year old Joseph Biondo says he knows texting while driving is not a

Water pump replacement by [email protected]
I am having a tough time replacing my leaking water pump. Per the directions, the timing belt has to be removed, which can be removed until the crank shaft pulley has been removed. After 2 days of trying - I can't get the crank shaft pulley off. Has anyone ever replaced the water pump without...

cheap Miata for sale near here by tonyrama
I was out and about today and I went down into a wholesale lot looking for a vehicle for my mother, and what did I see but an M1! I couldn't believe they had one there, so I pulled in to see it. It's a '95, it looked green under the lights but the guy there said it was blue, it had a tan top with...

Can long nose, (skinny) crank be installed without pulling the engine? by [email protected]
I recently purchased a super low mileage 1990 miata with short crank. It's really beautiful and looks like new. I'd like to have the skinny crank installed for a personal feeling of security when I'm driving through the desert at night. At his point I don't have a handle on the possible cost of...

toyo tires scoring low in a test by Tonyrama
Hey all When I bought my Miata a few years back, I had to put tires on it immediately when I got it, so I just got whatever was cheap at VIP, since I didn't have time to shop around and find out what might be best. But since then, I've kept my eyes and ears open for what might be a good tire for...

Rain and Intrerior by Gary
Hi, Miata: 1991 with hard top on and window slightly open. I left the passenger side window open about two inches. A half hour rain managed to enter the Miata and did the following: (1) Wet the right side of the seat closest to the passenger side door. That seems to be thoroughly dry after...

How to repair Small Soft top tear by Greg Cooper
What would be the best way to repair a very small (2mm) tear in the vinal soft top? Is this something that one can reasonably do ones self? Where it is there is no problem with access to the back side of the tear. Thanks.

65 mph HARD shake by [email protected]
Yes, I know that everyone and their dog has reported this problem, but I'm starting to think that mine might be a little worse. I've got a '99 Miata I purchased back in July, and it has always had the 65 mph shake. I had new tires put on and asked them to take extra care when balancing the...

Overheating despite new parts by Garrett Gman
My black 1994 miata has an overheating problem that I cannot diagnose. Most of my driving is on the highway, where the car does not overheat. But if I get caught in stop and go traffic or city red lights after driving across town on the highway, the needle begins to rise above the halfway mark...

170 HP 2006 Miata : fact or fallacy ? by Martin Jackson
Leon van Dommelen: But I agree that it would be nice if manufacturers were required to report actual, rear wheel horsepower instead of some technical, immeasurable number. By tradition and currently for comparisons on a fair basis, Shaft power from the engine is measured on an engine dyno to SAE...

Valve cover gasket woes by Hal
Okay, I'm just venting. It seems that every car I work on has a weepy valve cover gasket. I've fixed my own in the past using a product called Hylomar, but I ran out, and I haven't seen it in years(wish I could buy more....). Hylomar seemed to work pretty good, and chase the drips away for a long...

Painting blower? Exposed cam gears by peter
HI, Since I have the drive train out and I can never keep it as clean as I would like, I was considering painting some engine componets. any pros/cons about painting the blower? I know that white would be best, but I am sorta partial to aluminium :). Also, recently I saw a pic of a miata with...

212,000 mile Spec Miata wins race by John
Have you ever doubted your Miata's drivetrain integrity? If so, you should'nt, cause the 5x Racing 1991 Spec Miata just won a 5 lap race at the SCCA Roebling Road double drivers school with 54 other miatas this past weekend. The car has over 212,000 miles on it, including the original engine and...

Tires for a conservative driver by Barry
I'm getting close to replacing my original Michelin Pilot SX-GT tires, which have about 50,000 miles. While I probably drive slightly faster and more aggressively than the average Camry or Taurus driver, I'm pretty conservative for a Miata driver. In the winter I put on Blizzaks, and while they...
