high water table by
Richard Holub
Hello,
I am going to construct a 3000 gal pond in my back yard and have a question
about construction in/on a high water table location.
I have filled in my back yard which is on a sloping hill towards a marsh.
One side of the proposed pond area is approximately 4 ft. deep (2 ft. above
water...

Any opinions on fertilizer tablets? by
Steve
I have been looking for a good fertilizer tablet and have seen many
different formulations. Does anyone have any recommendation or
preferences?
I also saw one that claimed to last for the whole growing season. I
wondered if any one here has tried one like that.
I am in zone 6 and have lotus,...

rider
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has any good info, site or other regarding the
specifics of the different koi types? ie: breeding, sizes,
hardyness, popularity, sellability, etc.
Next spring I intend on stocking with koi and since their are so many
species out there I figured on researching which...

Lowering water for winter by
Richard Holub
Here I go again...No pond yeat...building one in spring...
When designing a pond...should I calculate how low to lower the water for
the winter so that the ice does not damage the skimmer.
Example: top of pond water to match skimmer for summer use...during winter

Mystery baby fish by
Newbie Bill
Hi all-
I have a few questions about babies. All of my fish, cept two were small
when I got them (this season), including tiny feeders. So I was surprised
when earlier this summer I started seeing babies. I have about 15 of
various sizes. The 'two' were some chunky Shubunkins that were 5-6...

pond lifted due to rain by
Tak Sze
I just recently built a 2000 gallon pond with concrete over liner. The
pond has not been filled with water yet. However, the whole pond is
lifted a few inches due to recent rain. Actually I am not sure if the
pond is lifted or the soil on the side collapsed. If it is lifted by
the water, I don't...

Distressed Goldfish by
Bill Oertell
Early this morning one of our fantail goldfish was entangled in some string
algae. When I fished him out of the pond, I thought he was dead until he
twitched a little in the net. I put him back in the pond and tried to push him
around a little to get water to flow through his gills, but he wasn't...

Tetra PF3 Question by
bk
We use a Tetra PF3 cannister type filter with a 1100gph pump. The water
inside the cannister is stays very high. The local fish store tells me that
the water in the cannister shouldn't be so high. Anyone else use this
filter?

Bubbler Socks? by
Bill Stock
I noticed that my bubbler is struggling to bubble as it gets colder. I
imagine it will fail, when the real cold gets here. I've seen a few of you
talk about keeping your bubbler inside, but then the condensation builds up
in the long airline. My bubbler only has about 16" of airline attached to
it....

we are in illinois. No fish (koi) or plants have been added since we
just completed it and the temps are chilly here now. I have decided
to let it freeze over for this season since its so late in the year.
The external pump and...

New pond - Fountain pipe by
Hopefully will be pouring the conc floor next w/e.
But I had a brainwave yesterday, that I'm not sure about.
I've plumbed in a main drain so I can empty.
But I was thinking I could run a 2nd line with a socket on the end before I
lay the floor conc..
Idea is to screw a vertical pipe into the...

Heron Problem by
Bill Kerrell
We live within easy flight distance from the bay here in Pensacola. So we
had our visits from a Great Blue Heron. We were able to scare him away
several times. I covered the pond with screen. It looked terrible. So one
day I am at WalMart and in the garden dept found this 12" replica of a Barn
Owl....

As I was looking down I noticed a frog on the bottom.

We usually recommend keeping a hole open in the ice as our ponds have so...

Cold Fish (Update?) by
Bill Stock
Scott are you there?
Just wondering how your pond faired last night with the colder temps? We had
our coldest night so far (23F), which is not bad for this time of year. I'm
sure it must be colder in the Ottawa valley than it is here (Mississauga).
The pond bottom never got below 39F last night...
