The 3.73LS differential in my 2-wheel drive Explorer started whining at about 60 MPH before the original warranty expired, so I took it in for repair. The differential was rebuilt (ring and pinion, etc.) and the noise was gone. Unfortunately, the whine noise returned within 1000 miles. I got...

Tire wear by 4.0L
What kind of tire wear are you getting with your Explorer? I just replaced the OEM P235/70-16 Michelin Cross Terrains on my 2002 Explorer and I got 42k miles out of them. They were just approaching the wear indicators. Amazingly, the tires never had to be re-balanced for the entire 42k miles and...

Disable Alarm? by 98exp
I have a 98 EXP that has bad actuators in 4 of the 5 door locks. I would like to disable the system so that the key fobs are not required to start the car. Any ideas? The local dealership told me that it could not be done and I had to replace all actuators which would cost over $800.

Once a day (and only once), shortly after leaving the house, the transmission will fail to shift. Its like it has slipped, the RPMs jump up as the engine races in neutral. If you let off the gas for a few seconds, everything is fine for the rest of the day. My first thought is that it was...
