wheel swap by RJ[_1_]
Does anyone know of an information source that lists factory wheel swaps? I have a 98 xlt 4x4 that has the factory 15" wheel/tires on it. There are a lot of pre-mounted factory 16" and 17" take-offs on eBay and the like. Has anyone done this? TIA, RJ

Spare Tire Lock by [email protected]
I am also looking for a lock to put on my Spare tire for my 2001 Ford Explorer. Even though you may *think* that the spare can't be lowered while the car is locked up, my spare tire has been stolen. They folks at Firestone tire say they see it happen all the time. Has anyone else encountered this...

Spare Tire Lock Ford Explorer 2001 by [email protected]
My spare tire was stolen. Somehow the theif managed to lower the tire and cut the cable while my car was locked. The folks at Firestone said they've seen similar cases (one the week before). The said there are locks available to prevent the spare from being stolen. Aside from getting a chain and...

98 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer-Auto transmission shift problems by [email protected]
Hi Y'all, I have a 98 Ford Explorer 4x4, Eddie Bauer SUV. It's an auto transmission, and for the past several months it intermittantly will not upshift when it should. The engine will rev really high then it will chunk into the next highest gear. I have recently had the transmission fluid changed...

1997 ford explorer door lock by tjdeli
The drivers side door will not lock using either the door automatic lock, the remote lock, or even when trying to push the lock down manually. It shakes like it wants to go down, but it will not. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

98 Explorer AWD 5.0 V8 by Vito
At first was hard to start, but will now start but idle poorly (almost stalling, then smoothing out repeatedly). Also lack of power on acceleration. I poured my monthly can of B-12 Chemtool into the gas tank a couple of days ago - I've never had problems before doing this in over 230K...

Differential leak by Foon
I own a 2003 XLT Explorer, AWD with 42K. For about 2 weeks I've had a spotting type differential leak which drips to a spot the size of a silver dollar then stops. Any thoughts on what this is, how serious and whether it needs attention immediately? I've got a 150 mile trip coming up Monday and...

99 Explorer XLT ABS and Airbag Lights by cabosammy
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT with 85K miles on it. A couple of months ago, the airbag light started coming on and a couple of days later, the ABS light came on. The airbag light starts to flash once the vehicle is in gear and then it stays on. The ABS light just stays on if the vehicle is...

Differential Leak- follow up . by Foon
I made my trip with no problem, put the car in a shop for an eval. Leaking from one or both axle seals. My dealer wants $500 to replace the seals. $100 parts kit, $370 labor and $30+ for shop supplies, taxes etc. When I asked the shop manager if this was a common repair he said no. When I asked if...

Should I buy parts from Ford or ???? by TBW
I have to replace a windshield and rebuild a good portion of the front end on a 95 XLT 2WD automatic. Should I buy "genuine" Ford parts? Are there even any options in terms of front end parts? I certainly don't mind saving a buck or two if possible, but not if it means sacrificing...

Burning smell by Captain Coleman
I have a slight burning smell coming from under the hood of my 1997 4L OHV V6 explorer with 130K miles. I smell the smell after I park in the garage. If I open the hood while the engine is running, I can faintly see steam/smoke rising up from the front of the engine. I can't tell exactly...

'02 power mirror switch by Bill Jeffrey[_1_]
2002 Explorer XLT. The switch for the power mirrors works fine for both mirrors for up-down, but over the course of a couple years, the left-right portion has gradually gotten more and more intermittent for both mirrors. It has reached the point where it doesn't work at all for left-right. I...
