Lighting Kit Question by
ben
I have built a custom hood for a planted 40g and I want to install some of
the AH Supply kits, but I'm uncertain which would be the best for my tank.
The tank is 36" x 18", so should I use the 2x55W kit which is 24" x 8"
(actually 2 of 24" X 8") or the 96W lit which is 35" x 4"? The question...

Marine: Brown algae by
Mark A. Odell
I have a new 54 Gallon corner tank that has finally cycled. I put 4
damsels in Monday and they seem quite happy. Anyhow, while the tank was
cycling I noticed brown algae growing on the sandy bottom and on the
glass. It seems to continue to grow although not at an alarming rate.
What should I do?...

hooking up protein skimmer by
Pete
I have a large amiracle protien skimmer.
This is the skimmer that requires a powerhead and airpump.
I purchases a Penguin 300gph powerhead, put it on my undergravel
filter. Hooked it to the protein skimmer and it shot water out the
top.
Seemed like too much power head.
So then I bought the next...

Reef Do-it-Yourself website/books? by

Been looking into the idea of making my FO tank into a reef, and wanted
advice/suggestions on good websites or books that talk about creating things
yourself.
I need to improve the lighting and make a DSB, but also heard about other
gadgets that will be good for the reef, such as a IV-drip like...

Odd Filter Idea by
Ben
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had ever hooked up an overhanging powerfilter
to an undergravel filter? I notice that after I have my tank set up for
a while, lots of mulm accumulates under the UGF's bed. (Again, this is
expected and wanted). So every other water change I do, I pull out...

Ok, I'm new at this...last tank I had was 45 years ago. Now I think I've
jumped the gun. I have a 29 gal. tank with 'natural' gravel and I planted
several varieties straight into the gravel. I just have 3 small fish right
now.
The question is: Can I move the gravel aside and insert the Laterite...

I'm a newbie setting up a 55 gal. So far, I've been practicing on a

I'm about ready to start thinking about the large tank now.
One problem I have on the small tank and haven't been able to solve well
