Can I do this? by Psinapse
Is it possible to re-tighten the drivebelt tensioner in a 1991 Explorer or, will I need a new apparatus? It seems that the pulley is rubbing against the tensioner itself. In particular the part that juts out and accepts the bolt that holds the pulley. ( I hope someone understands that :) ) Thanks

Radiator Exploded on '92 by Ulysses
While I was driving up a steep dirt hill in 4WD my '92 EB lost power. The temp gauge was about 2/3 the way up. It just would not go any more. It did not feel like the transmission was slipping and the tach was reading around 2500-3000 rpm or so. I shut off the engine to let it cool off. A...

98 S Belt Squeal by [email protected]
When I started my 1998 Explorer XLT last night a squeal started up as well. Ok, I guessed the fan/accessory/serpentine belt (what are they called these days?) is loose, also confirmed as my "volts" gauge was indciating towards the low side. Lifted the hood this morning - and found I could deflect...

Abnormal Engine Vibration Explorer LTD 2004 V6 by [email protected]
Hello All - I've had this vehicle since June of last year. I've been very pleased with it so far. It's recently developed a strong engine vibration that occurs during idle (park, drive or neutral). If (while in park/neutral) I blip the throttle I get slow rpm response with a bit of a blurp (for...

40K Service on 3 Yr Old Mountaineer V8 by D.D. Palmer
I scheduled some service on my 2003 '03 Mountaineer V8 that will be 3 years old on Sept 15th. I've never done anything under the hood except oil changes, a fuel filter at 30,000 miles and an air filter. The dealer suggests a tranny flush ($139) and a coolant drain and fill ($40). Or they can do a...

PRND21 Alignment by Steven L. Finberg
On a '99 Explorer Sport 4.0 automatic, column shift. How is the gear shift indicator aligned? What would cause it to become unregistered suddenly? Over one day it shifted such that each gear apeared midway to the right of the marking. Now slowley it seems to be drifting even further to the...

window regulator cable - '92 explorer by dot
The left rear window suddenly slipped to the bottom today. I pulled the door panel and found the regulator cable is no longer attached to anything on what I suspect is the window end. Can anyone point me to a picture or describe how/where this is supposed to be attached. I'm reluctant to pull apart...

Gauge cluster cover cracked by Paul Scrutton
Looked today at my gauge cluster and found that it is starting to get two cracks in the plastic over the top of all the gauges. Wow, I can't think what has caused this. Anyone seen this? I'm at 250,000 miles now. Anyone replaced the plastic cover somehow on these? Do I have to buy the whole...

'06 Explorer by D.D. Palmer
I saw photos of the '06 Explorer/Mountaineer and it looks like they have some nice improvements. Of course at $2.50/gallon and rising, I can't see trading in my '03 for another 13MPG-around-town guzzler. My guess, however, is that by Xmas these beasts will be littering up dealer lots and...

Standard CD Player by Mark Barrett
At what model year did the Explorer have a standard CD player/ AM/FM Stereo as opposed to the standard Cassette player? My son is driving a 95 XLT with the cassette and would like the CD. I'm thinking I could pick up a CD big button version from a salvage yard. Mark

Factory oil filters redux by Alan E. Seelbach
Last week I posted how difficult it is to remove FACTORY installed oil filters. Most post repliers, except for Jim Warman, didn't seem to understand my post and tried to help me install a new filter (oil gasket, hand tighten, etc.). Well today I had to remove another FACTORY installed oil filter...
