Repairing a Windshield
The process of repairing a windshield consists of cleaning the damaged
area, removing air from the area with specifically designed tools, and
filling the area with a resin that optically matches the original
laminate of the windshield. This procedure permanently restores...

Long term penalty for using lower octane? by
G Mulcaster
Hi Group,
I'm wondering what the long term penalty is for using lower octane
fuel than called for.
If the owner's maunual calls for, say, 91 and 87 is used my
understanding for the short term is:
The ECM will retard the timing based on
the knock sensor output.

OT - a bit- high beltline cars by
patrick mitchel
The current style- the smaller side windows with the taller sidelines of
autos- is that purely a cosmetic affectation or is there a significant gain
in body stiffness without the big holes in the sides of the body? Just

Heating rusty bolts by
[email protected]
While an oxy-acetylene torch is great at heating rusty bolts to get
them loose, are there any decent equivalents for the home mechanic?
I've seen some impossible to move nuts and bolts easily removed after
heated red hot, but don't know what alternatives would be worthwhile.
Is a Mapp gas torch...

Squeak from left front:what else besides brakes? by
MachineMessiah
2001 Kia Optima, 91,000 miles. Owned for 2 1/2 years.
I replaced the tires and brakes when I bought the car.
Ever since replacing brakes the car has had a squeak from the left
front. It only happens at low speed and is especially bad when turning
in a circle to the left. The sound was so bad...

power windows roll up incrementally by
[email protected]
On a 1995 Camaro Z28, let's say the windows are rolled down all the
way.
If I press the "up" button, the window will go up about halfway, then
it stops. If I press the up button again (immediately), the window
won't move. *But*, if I wait about 20-30 seconds, and press the up
button, the window...

Repairing Auto Glass by
anganb
The need to replace or repair auto glass usually results from an
unfortunate event, and is unlikely to be the result of age; however,
this does occur infrequently. To avoid theft and ensure passenger
safety, it is wise to replace broken and missing glass as quickly as
possible.
Fortunately, auto...

Caliper Repair Nothing Else by
[email protected]
Need your help:
My wife took her 2006 Cadillac SRX with 45K miles to the dealer for
regular oil/tire rotation. We did not mention anything about any brake
issues, yet they "sold" her new calipers, nothing else related to
brakes. No pads, no rotors, nothing...
I believe the brake pads were replaced...

Caliper Repair Nothing Else by
[email protected]
Hi there...
Yesterday, my wife went into her dealer for an oil change/tire
rotation regular maintenance on her 2006 Cadillac SRX with about 45K
miles on it. They "sold" her new calipers. There were no other brake
related repairs on the car. There were no brake issues (e.g.,
squeaking, etc...) that...

85 tercel won't start by
[email protected]
Hi everyone,
Hope you can help me with this problem. I left my 1985 tercel (3AC)
with my brother and he didn't start it up for 4 months. The gas line
was dry and it took many cranks with starter spray to finally get gas
to the carb. On the final try, it caught but then stalled out after
about 20...

Slightly used car battery OK to buy? by
bryanska
Local Craigslister has a battery that would fit my car.
The story: they bought it at WalMart, 6 year warranty, didn't mention
the brand. It was purchased charged, and used once to start a stranded
car.
Than it was taken out and has been sitting since September. 525 CCA at
zero degrees and 630 CA...
