Transmission Jack Placement? by Ulysses
Before I remove the transmission from my '91 Explorer I'd like to have a good idea of how to use a transmission jack. Where exactly does the jack contact the transmission? The oil pan does not look like it would support the weight. Does the jack support the edge of the pan? How does...

Brake Line Replacement by Chris F.
Me again with this '88 Civic project. This car has been parked for about 8 months now, and a mechanic recently told me that this is very bad for the brake lines. He said I should replace all the steel lines to prevent problems down the road. This involves a lot of extra work though; is it...

How to find a car with a distressed loan by HLS
In today's economy, it would seem that some people probably have cars and loans that they cannot keep up. Is there a way to locate these people and try to negotiate to take over the car/loan, or is this on a case by case basis? I imagine this is a bad idea in most cases, as these people...

Brake Splash Guards by Chris F.
One more question about the '88 Civic. I've now got the front end taken apart, and I notice that the brake splash guards are totally rusted away - only the mounting screws remain, and they appear to be rusted in place. Should I be worried about replacing these (which involves removing the...

Oil Over Fill by MLD
Just had an oil/filter change at the Dealer--2008 Avalon 6 cyl--checked the dip stick and noticed that the oil level is about 1/2 in. over the fill mark. My guess is that it is equivalent to about a 1/2 Qt. Obviously, the Tech just filled to factory Spec and never checked the dip stick level. ...

Torque Converter Lockup Clutch Failing by [email protected]
Hi everyone, I have a 1996 Ford Escort LX with 213k miles on it. It has the F4EAT automatic transmission with overdrive. Over the past few months, I've noticed what appears to be my torque converter lockup clutch locking and unlocking at random, most noticeable at highway speeds (>50 mph). It...

I've got a new rotor that had been bought for my 92 F150 4x4 (before the oak tree totaled it.) Will that fit my 91 4x4 Explorer?

Hi, Here is an update regarding this problem. Lately, the door is not "stuck" more times than "is". I don't know if it is because all those "lubes" I have been trying is taking effect? The weird part, this is intermittent! I appreciate the responses. I know you want to help, but I...

95 Corolla pinging and some oil consumption by Dan[_6_]
My 95 Corolla 1.6 4A-FE with 100k miles has been pinging when going uphills for quite a while. It used to ping on hot days only. The pinging is getting progressively worse and now it pings also in cooler weather. Oil consumption is 1 quart per 3k miles. Could these be related? I considered...

Driving an old genuine Hydramatic by Ashton Crusher[_2_]
Has anyone ever driven a car with an actual Hydramatic transmission in it. The first ones that didn't have a torque converter and that had two fluid clutches? If so, what did the "shifts" feel like? From what I read, they shifted at least partly by filling and emptying the fluid couplings.
