98 Neon misfire question by ray
helping to troubleshoot a co-worker's car: 98 Neon (auto and A/C) that has the "service engine soon" light lit. Hooked up my autotap, it showed a P0300 and P0301 misfire/cylinder 1. tried to clear them, my autotap thinks the MIL is off, but it won't turn off, and my autotap thinks there are no...

How to remove a coolant temperature sensor on a 98 corolla? by mdmtber
I have a 1998 corolla and it is overcooling. I think the engine temperature sensor is bad. However, it is located against the engine block by coolant inlet ports and hard to get at with conventional tools? Anyone know how to do it?

Determining mileage on a van by [email protected]
I'm considering buying a late 70s Dodge van which the seller indicates has a little over 110,000 kms on it. THat's what the odometer reads. However, this van has a 5 digit odometer, so I'm concerned that it may have gone around more than once. THe VIN of this van is not the modern 17 character...

Small block short water pump orientation by Dave[_10_]
I am doing an engine swap for a SBC and the power steering pump (Saginaw) is in the way. I can mount it on the passenger side, but that means turning the short water pump upside down. Can the water pump be mounted upside down? Anything special about doing it that way? Thanks for the help. Dave

Why would AC only work when foot is on gas? by David
Our family has two Isuzu Rodeos, a 1995 and a 1997. The AC on the 1995 works great. the 1997 stinks. On the '97 Rodeo when I'm sitting still, it gets very hot when the car is idling. My first thought is that the engine is getting so hot, I need to be moving to have the additional air cooling. ...

The heater on my 1994 Corsica with V-6 engine has not put out more than lukewarm heat for the past couple years in the winter. I have kept the car in immaculate condition including keeping the coolant changed regularly. I have flushed the radiator and heater core, tried a couple different brands of...

confused about steering wheel airbag coil centering (Cavalier) by George[_1_]
('99 Cavalier) I had a broken piece on my turn signal cam, so I disassembled the steering column to replace that. In reassembling, the Chevy book talks about "centering" the airbag coil. I find the directions confusing. The book says to ... 2. rotate the coil hub CW until the coil ribbon...

Alloy wheels and nut/bolt design by Plato
Hi all Where alloy wheels have a tapered seat I commonly see these fastened with nuts/bolts having seats of a different taper or even with the rounded seats used on steel wheels! Seems to me that if an engineer has designed a wheel with a particular angle of taper there must have been equivalent...

Hello, I'm trying to fix a van that has been sitting for a year and a half. Assuming that the mechanical stuff gets fixed right (HA!), what about the gas? I've been told to drain the tank, because the gasoline has degraded -- but I don't know how to do it, nor where to dump (legally) the spoiled...
