95 Explorer battery discharging by
Jay
Hello folks,
I have a 95 Explorer 4 door XLT with manual transmission and 133,000
miles. I was in Ottawa on business last week and my wife called and
told me that Exp. was barely turning over when she tried to start it,
but it would run fine when it did start. When I got home and tried to...

Ball joints by
Foon
Just got off the phone with a local Ford dealer who was doing a cruise control
repair on my '03 XLT Explorer (55K gentle miles) He said the mechanic observed
lower ball joint wear on both sides and recommended replacement at a cost of
$500+. He said failure to repair would cause uneven tire wear...

Cruise Control in Crapper '03 XLT by
Foon
With only 55k miles on this '03 am I surprised the cruise control has crapped
out? Yes!
My question is regarding worst case scenario. Is there an electrical/mechanical
function plateau to consider regarding fixing this? What kind of costs should I
expect when repairing this malfunction. I searched...

New Spark Plugs by
Daniel David Palmer[_2_]
At what mileage should spark plugs be changed on a 2003 Mountaineer V8?
Currently I am at 70K miles and I seem to recall that someone said they
are hard to remove at the recommended 100,000 miles. Outta I do this now
or just wait?

Ford Transmissions by

I was reading the latest issue of Automobile magazine yesterday and
came across a column blasting American auto companies for providing
much better cars to the European market than they provide to the
American market. One of their prime examples was the Focus (totally

New Shocks on Mountaineer by
Daniel David Palmer[_2_]
It was suggested that I replace the shocks on my 2003 Mountaineer V8
with about 70,000 miles.
What should I replace them with? More OEM shocks (the originals seemed
fine when new)? I also understand that Mountaineer and Explorer use
different shocks. Does this difference have any bearing on...

What year Expedition should I buy? by
onoahimahi
I'm looking at buying a 2002 Expedition with low miles but before I
do, I'm wondering were there any major changes or improvements
introduced after 2002 that I would be missing out on? I could afford
maybe up to a 2006 but would prefer to save money by buying the 2002
if I can.
Thanks,
Scott

02 Explorer 100k mile maintenance by
brazzle
hey all,
i'm approaching 100k miles on my 2002 Eddie Bauer. I bought it at the
end of 2006 and haven't really done any routine maintenance on it
(aside from oil changes and rotations) so I would like to make sure I
do enough maintenance to keep it running well for another 50k miles at
least.
I...

'97 Explorer 4.0 SOHC - Hard start in cold by
Rick N Pam
My '97 Explorer has developed a starting issue in cold weather. I turn the
key and it starts immediately, runs for a second or two and shuts off. I
have to repeat the process numerous times before it will stay running. At
first, I thought the battery voltage was sagging because it is at least 8...

The first time it happened it was really snowy and icy but I didn't
put it together with the idea that it might be my 4WD. Then nothing

Alternate source for lock actuators ? by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I'm finding the need to replace a couple of lock actuators on my 2000
Mountaineer. Purchasing form the dealer is quite expensive, I was
wondering if anyone has come across a less expensive source for these
items. Any recommendations will be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Front Wheel Bearings by
Daniel David Palmer[_2_]
I posted before about my '03 Mountaineer being loud. I was able to go on
a quiet stretch of highway at 60 mph then shift into neutral and shut
down the engine. Noise continues. So I guess that rules out drivetrain
and exhaust. BLUEOVALNEWS folks suggested front bearings and I do hear a
click...
