New Tools. by [email protected]
I was reading the Car Clinic section in my snail mail February 2010 Popular Mechanics magazine. Powerbuilt Digital Torque Adapter, cost about $50.00 (for calibrating torque wrenches) and, OK Spark Plug Sensor. I have a 78 amp 12SI alternator, out of a mid-80s Riviera, in my '78 Trans Am. My new battery went completely dead in a week. A meter showed a current draw of about 300mA with the key off. Removing the two-pin connection from the alternator dropped the current draw to about 9mA. This is a...

Steel Wheels on a Subaru by Tim Wescott
My wife inquired at the tire place about using steel wheels for her winter tires on her 2004 Outback. They told her that Subarus are made for aluminum wheels, and don't do well with steel. This sounds like BS to me, but I haven't actually tried it so I don't know. Is there truth to that, or...

I have a 2000 Mazda Protege ES with 180k miles on it. Last June one of my low beams burnt out. So, as a precaution, I replace ALL the bulbs including tail lights, etc. I used Sylvania XtraVision as replacement headlamps.... pretty standard 2003...

It has decreased the suspension rattle I occasionally feel through the steering wheel and brake pedal, but not eliminated it. ...

Fire and Drive by phaeton
This morning it is -12F, and our projected high for the day is going to be 2F. Just like most mornings, I see people outside that get in their car, crank it over, and take off driving within 5 seconds of the engine starting. You sure couldn't do that in the old days with carburetors and...

Suggestion to pump gasoline from one car to another in a garage by William Brammer
Any suggestion on a good gasoline pump to move gas from one vehicle to another in a garage? My wife always fills up at the most expensive stations while I get my gas at the least expensive I can find using Gas Buddy. I'd like to weekly (or so) transfer about 15 gallons (or so) from my tank to...
