1999 Maxima Shakes - is dealer's diagnosis correct ? by [email protected]
My Maxima 1999 started the following behavior about six months back... - initially, "service engine" light came on. I took the car to a local mechanic and the code apparently said "primary ignition failure". Since obviously my car was starting fine, he just reset the light and said everything was...

Problem with the windshield by Ulf
Hello, Is there anyway you can change the direction of a crack in the windshield? I just noticed there's one going right for the driver's side, but I'd like to steer it down so it won't obstruct my view. I've tried tapping on it with the head of a screw driver, but it doesn't seem to do much good....

99 Honda Civic Bumper Replacement - Air Bag system by Mark
I'm going to be replacing a bumper on a 99 Honda for a friend. I was wondering if there's concern about accidently depoying the air bags while banging around under the bumper. Has anyone ever heard of a case where using an air impact wrench could accidently deploy the air bags due to...

1973 280SEL 4.5 running rough by Alex
My 1973 SEL 4.5 is running rough, like when a plug or two has fouled. It has run fine for the last 6 years, and as soon as I put a for sale sign in the rear window, she decided she's unhappy. Installed a new water pump and a new distributor, plugs and points about 2 months ago, took some time but...

Rack & Pinion Nissan Pathfinder by [email protected]
Anyone know how hard it is to change a Rack and Pinion on a 96 Nissan Pathfinder? I took it to a mechanic, and they thought that the Rack and Pinion is shot. What it is doing is when I hit a bump, even at low speeds, the steering shakes. Thanks for the help. Chad

Isuzu Rodeo/Axiom brakes by Rich
My local dealer/service dept. said this is normal, but I'm having a problem with the front left brakes squeaking at low speed stops, and the rotor keeps getting glazed. The pads are 80% and nothing looks strange. I don't ride on the brakes. Each time they turn the rotors it goes away for about 2...

I have a 1986 Toyota Camry with a Turn-Signal/Flasher Issue. The Rear Turn-Signals/Flashers work fine, but the Front Turn-Signals/Flashers do not flash at all. The two bulbs in both the front-left and front-right corner lights operate fine when the parking/head-lights are on, but they do not flash...

cartoon: improving the electric car by JazzMan
Of course, what most twits fail to realize is that there is no meaningful public transportation infrastructure in the US, due in part to the spread out nature of the population that occurred because cheap fuel allowed living far away from city centers. In countries with high gas prices most people...

cartoon: improving the electric car by [email protected]
One can comfortably dry one's hands a foot from the exhaust of a fourth gen Chrysler Turbine Car at idle, and on K-1 kero the smell isn't even a problem. As the power pedal is advanced, you will move away promptly, but you won't be burned. Peak EGT is probably 350 degrees, and would only be...

S-10 Blazer fuel pump fuse? by [email protected]
My '95 S-10 Blazer (throttle body injection) won't start. It was running fine last night and now it turns over fine and even runs for a few seconds when I spray starting fluid. Visible spark. I took off the fuel filter to check for pressure, and there's none, even with the ignition on. ...

DIfferent quotes for ignition coil from different Nissan dealers ... by [email protected]
Thanks for all your responses regarding ignition coil. I called couple of Nissan dealers in the Seattle area (we live in Bellevue) and got different quotes for the same job: parts + labor for replacing all the six coils (range $620-$850). Any recommendation on who/how to choose ? Thanks Sams

transaxle by jdl
A couple of days ago I put on a new pan gasket and filled with fluid. Today, I have PRN and 1st gear, no 2nd 3rd or OD. I don't know what happened? It's probably my imagination but the throttle felt different, somehow. The transaxle does have a throttle cable, I don't know if it is adjustable or...

static electricity shock when exiting car (97 Accord) - anti-static straps? by [email protected]
Many are familiar with the static electricity problem when exiting their car. Apparently it has something to do with some of the newer tire compounds. I have heard solutions ranging from spraying cloth seats with a fabric softener solution to "remembering" to touch the metal frame before leaving...

Ran car with no steering fluids now leaks. `89 lxi Accord Honda by sbcglobal.net
A minor left front collision break opens the fluid reservoir, emptying the tank. Out of necessity, the car was driven for several days without steering fluids, unsure if this is a good idea. I went under the car and find a leak (1-drop/min) from the steering box boot (on the passenger side) near...
