help! 1997 Hyundai Accent, gear grinding by
bri j
Someone from rec.autos.driving sent me here - so this is crossposted:
I just bought a 1997 Hyundai Accent (5 speed/manual trans, 136k miles)
and it's got a few kinks (as I expected, with that many miles). I'd
like to have a better idea of what's going on before heading to the
mechanic, although...

Ron Lyons
Hi guys!
I thought I would try posting here to see if I could get any help on a
problem I've been having with my brother's 1963 impala. It's a nice old car
but the charging system has issues.
We've had problems for years getting this thing to charge right, and one of
the problems was the wiring...

ethanol and greenhouse gases by
Don Stauffer
There are a couple of good web sites about the energy balance of ethanol
as a motor fuel- the net energy between burning ethanol as a fuel vs the
energy required to make it.
However, what about the CO2 emissions? I cannot find such a site.
Doesn't the burning of ethanol release slightly more CO2...

Are there any SUV's in which BOTH the front passenger and rear
passenger seats folds down flat in such a way that there is an
unobstructed flat area between dash and tailgate? I want to put
a 9' 4" kayak INSIDE this vehicle. (Yes, I know all about roofracks.)
Thanks in advance.

Need Help with Charging System Problems for 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee by
fredr1980
Long story short, I went off-roading today and after I ran through a
mud pit (wasn't very deep, maybe up to the wheel hubs) and I think I
killed my alternator and messed up my charging system on my 97 Jeep ZJ
4.0L. My volt gauge normally sits at 14 and after running a mud pit it
was sitting at...

1994 Buick Century-strange problem by
Craig W
I have recently had problems with a 1994 Buick Century, 6 cyl, with approx
100K miles. It seems like these problems could be symptoms created by
another problem, but I'm just guessing. Any advice would be greatly
apprecaited.
Slight loss of coolant with driving, does not overheat, does not...

Help fixing a Code Alarm security system by
umpqua123
My Code Alarm car security system just died. I can still lock all doors
with the keyless remote but, the remote can't be used to unlock the
doors. I can hear a click noise from under the dash (drivers side) but,
it won't unlock the doors. I tried using a spare set of keyless remotes
but still...

Results of Air Bag test by
Laurence
Well I have now fired two seat mounted air bags under more or less
controlled conditions. Not sure what Duncanwood was mumbling about but
all it takes is a low current 12 volt source connected to to the
appropriate wire and BANG, off it goes. Smells remarkably like a very
large percussion cap....

TDC mark not on flywheel where expected by
[email protected]
A while ago I put a new clutch in my '82 NA 1.6L diesel VW Rabbit. Is
it possible I put the flywheel back on wrong? Now that I'm doing the
timing belt, I've hit a problem. I have the oil pan off so I can see
when the #1 piston is at TDC according to the crank, but there is a
mark on the flywheel...

Ok. I'm drivin my car and all at once the engine boggs down as if it
going to stop, then it runs fine for about a quarter mile then boggs
down again and dies. As I'm pulling off the x-way, I push in the clutch
and it goes to the floor with no resistant at all. Car wont start. I

95 thunderbird check engine light, is it safe to drive? by
red95tbird
I have a 1995 t-bird that is close to 150K. I just had major repairs
done to it, that hasn't needed before. Before that, I had always kept
it serviced every 30-60K. The problem was the head gasket and water
was in the oil. This was repaired and the car sat at home in front of
the house after...

no-start on 2000 Chev Express van by
Brian
I have a no-start on my chevy van, 2000 model year, 5.7 litre V8. It cranks
fine, seems to cough when I stop cranking but won't otherwise even try to
fire. I've been told that the "clear flood" mode is to crank with quarter
throttle, which hasn't helped.
Last night wasn't particularly cold but...
