95 Chevy K2500, Very Strange Timing issue by Brent
Hey folks, I'm really stumped on this problem. 350 TBI engine, high miles Symptoms: -cranks rough, but starts quickly (like initial timing is too high) sometimes, it will kick back instead of starting. -in park, won't accelerate off idle with heavy throttle application, shudders violently. ...

92 Pontiac Trans Sport Front Wheel Bearing by Brent McNabb
I have a 1992 Pontiac Trans Sport (clone of the Lumina/Silhouette minivan) minivan which I believe has a bad front wheel bearing. It "grumbles" with forward motion and you can feel the sound, too. Now I've looked at the procedure to replace the bearings, but there is one special tool called for...

degreasing old tools by Brent P
I have what were my grandfather's tools. A mix of snap on, SK, craftsman, various cheapos, other brands that look like quality tools but the names I haven't seen anywhere else. Anyway almost all of them are coated in grease and dirt from many years of use without cleaning. The sockets have grease...

old camber/caster gauge usage by Brent P
Another decades old tool I've dug up. The Weaver 3 way gauge. The actual gauge portion is very much like the modern gauges and using it shouldn't be a problem. Plus the instructions are written on it. The problem is mounting it to the car/wheel. It's obviously some sort of hub mount, but instead...

coolant seepage, '97 mustang 4.6 by Brent P[_1_]
'97 mustang, started making an odd noise on acceleration with some power loss. Drove around trying to figure out what it was, eliminated some things when the MIL came on. Idles and cruises fine, only at acceleration does this missing/skipping sort of noise occur. Read the codes, cylinder #8...

What should flywheel resurfacing cost? by Brent P[_1_]
Just want to know a ballpark figure so I don't get ripped off. 4.6L ford V8, '97 mustang GT if matters. Looks like it will probably be advisable to replace the clutch since the release/throw out bearing decided to start screaming. After a 151K miles I doubt there's a lot life left on the clutch...

Would it save my BMW to lower the radiator pressure cap from 30psi to 15psi by Brent[_8_]
From reading what goes wrong with BMWs, one scary well known flaw is the lousy leaking plastic radiators. Since BMW apparently puts 30psi pressure caps (marked 200, or 2 Bar) on these plastic radiators, I wonder if simply changing the pressure cap to something more akin to what the US...

BMW license tag light and trunk lock go on and off together by Brent[_8_]
My 2003 BMW left license tag light is out and the trunk keeps opening on its own. Both happen at the same time. It's intermittent but both work and don't work at the same time so they must be related. Is this a common BMW problem with the rear lights and locks associated?

Where can I get an old style non CARB 5-gal gasoline can? by Brent[_8_]
Where can I get an old style non CARB compliant 5-gal gasoline can? I pine for the days when 5-gallong gas jugs had a pour spout and a vent. All the gasoline cans I can find in the stores are something called "CARB compliant". They are miserable abominations. I've never spilled so much gasoline...

Tort Caps On Renewable Tech Tragedies by Bret Cahill
I'm generally opposed to "tort reform" for a lot of reasons but one exception needs to be carved out for humanity to survive: If someone's supercap or Li ion battery explodes, trial lawyers will never see more than $100K per head. Bret Cahill

LTD CC Desert Vehicle "Runs on Water" by Bret Cahill[_2_]
The water does double duty heat transfer: First the water evaporative cools the cool side of a closed cycle low temp. difference engine, i.e., Stirling, vapor, etc. Then the remaining water, pre warmed from the engine's heat sink, is sprayed onto the hot pavement under the front end of the...

Mopar Follies (was: easiest engine) by Bret Ludwig
I have no beef against DaimlerChrysler, FoMoCo or General Motors. In my opinion all have made some beautiful things and some dog poop. However it's been brought to my attention that some consider Chrysler Corp. engineering without peer or flaw. All I can say is, bull****. Bad points with...

Waste Spark System Without CPU by Bret Ludwig
By using two or three electronic pickups and ignition boxes and double ended coils from motorcycles or late model cars, wouldn't it be possible to build a waste-spark system for most older four and six cylinder engines and get rid of the distributor cap, rotor and so forth? Is there a good reason...
