Methyl Hydrate by
mark
I see lots of folks who claim that putting an amount of methyl hydrate
in the tank prior to an emissions test, can help lower HC/CO
I am considering giving it a try on my older vehicle with a car that is
giving me fits being just barely over the edge on both HC and CO, but
believe it or not, I am...

Bringing Back the Classic Gas-guzzler by
[email protected]
I'm wondering about the feasability of recreating the appearance of
classic American autos, like the '57 Chevy & such; but with lighter
materials and hybridized engines.
Imagine driving a '48 Studebaker -- but getting 50 miles to the gallon.
That's what I'm talking about. The bodies of immortal...

Daimler steel/plastic "alloy" by
Don Stauffer
Buying a new Chrysler van, and the salesman was tauting a new "alloy"
that he said Daimler developed. He called it an alloy, but the
description seems to indicate a laminate, plastic on steel. I am
assuming it is a single layer of each. He said it provides both
corrosion resistance and sound...

1967 Olds Toronado died on the drive home by
Mr. DOS
I parked the '67 Toronado outside jusat before the temperature got
below freezing about a month ago. It was above 50 degreees, so I
decided to drive it today. It started right up, just needed some power
steering fluid.
It ran fine all day, but started hesitating on the way to work tonight.
It...

are all engines the same? by
Jizzosh[_1_]
Alright, here's what I'm getting at: currently, the car I'm driving
before I get my liscense is an in-line 4 cylinder. Now, just say that
each cylinder has a displacement of .5 liters for each type of 4
cylinder(v, inline, boxer etc.), would they all have the same RPM? Or
does the crankshaft have...

Jumping a Car Battery by
Buck Turgidson
Just want to confirm the procedure to jump a battery - connect the 2
positives (red), then the negatives (black). Then disconnect starting with
the black?
For some reason, I had it in my mind that you connect the black first to
prevent an "open ground", but I guess I am wrong.
Appreciate any...

Buying old cars with a ton of miles on them.... by
phaeton
On one hand, I feel like I'm just asking for trouble....
Slowly over the last few years I've nurtured a desire for a MKIII Toyota
Supra- 1986.5-1992 model years. Specifically I want an all-original,
unmodified white one with a Targa Top, turbocharged engine and 5spd
transmission. So now...

Car shaking after changing spark plugs by
Wei Hu
Hi,
Today I replaced the six spark plugs of my 94 Ford Taurus.
However, when I stop for red lights, the car shakes every one or two
seconds.
Does anybody know the reason?
Could it be that I didn't adjust the gap?
Thanks,
Wei

92 Mustang 5 Speed Pops Out of Reverse by
Bob La Rocca
My '92 Mustang Convertible with a 5.0 and 5 speed pops out of reverse. Any
ideas on what causes this and how hard it is to fix?
Shifter stops are adjusted properly.
TIA!

Mark A., again, your thinking is very old-fashioned when
it comes to comparing 0w-30 to 5w-30. As I said, you should
consider doing some current reading about the 2 viscocities.
Dr. A. E. Haas, a Florida physician and surgeon who has
researched fluid dynamics for decades, has written the...

vacuum leak = low mpg? by
Tom[_36_]
Some time ago I had a sudden drop in mileage. At about the same time, I had
the first ever CEL code on my car, a 2002 Buick Century V6. The code was P0442
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0442 which is "Evaporative Emission Control
System Leak Detected (small leak)"
I used to get about 23 mpg, now I...
