another grease question: bolt threads by
Abeness
I can use a touch of just any old grease to lube bolt threads, right?
E.g. the bolts attaching the slave cylinder to the tranny. Or should I
avoid this so as to lessen the risk of over-tightening them? I do plan
to use a torque wrench. While I'm careful, I sure don't want to run the
risk of...

'88 Civic starting problem by
Matt Ion[_1_]
Okay, just helped a buddy swap a new engine core (block and head - D15B2, if
memory serves) into an '88 Civic with dual-point PGM-FI. Kept the original
intake and throttle body, all wiring appears to be back where it belongs.
Engine was running before, but there was a big nasty crack down the...

Accord 2008 and fuel octane by
alfred[_3_]
Hello,
I have a 2008 Accord Auto 4 cyl EX-L. The manual says to use regular 87
octane. The compression ratio in this car is high enough where premium would
be required in other car brands with the same compression ratio and almost
as high as other Hondas (such as the civic si) that do require...

My Si has a DX motor! by
Dave Garrett
I think I posted about this when my timing belt was changed a couple of
years ago; the short version was that my usual mechanic told me after
he'd finished the work that he thought my 90 CRX Si had a 1.5L engine
instead of the usual 1.6, because the timing belt for a 1.6 didn't fit,
but the...

outrage over cost of replacing timing belt by
MJ
I was just informed by my dealer that the timing belt on my 2002
Odyssey will need replacement. The car has 109,000 miles on it. They
quoted me a price of $7,800!!!! This is a dealer in Dedham, MA. This is
absolutely outrageous in my opinion and a total ripoff. I have two
Honda's and don't think...

Rear-Ended; New Bumper? by
Elle[_4_]
93 Civic DX sedan. It was a collision hard enough that the drawer
beneath the radio opened and sent the coin change I keep there flying.
As I got out, I thought I would find the Civic's rear would be partly
flattened. I was amazed that externally, the bumper only showed
scratches. The exhaust...

2006 civic; MPG seeing and amount paid. by
[email protected]
OK here is the deal, I am about to start commuting about 240 miles a
day so I'm looking to buy a new car. My top choice is a 2006 civic LX.
I also need to stay south of the 20 grand mark- so no hybrids. Used
isn't out of the question but civics hold too much value. 15k for an
04 w/ 35k ......

Comment on car insurance by
Useful Info
*My consumer experience*
I've had insurance with Allegiance, Geico, Traveler's, and now Erie.
Geico was expensive. I knew I was paying for their prime-time TV ads.
I paid something like $1200 per year.
Traveler's was cheaper. I assumed it was the cheapest in town.
I paid $920 per year.

93 Honda Civic Mileage gone bad by
Danny Beardsley
I recently started getting very low milage in my 1993 Civic EX (1.6 L
SOHC VTEC).
Previously I've seen between 32 and 38 (34 AVG.)
Now I'm getting about 25 MPG (it has steadily declined the last three
tanks).
Things I have checked/replaced:
* Replaced Plugs and gapped them properly (The old ones...

Doing my own brakes (97 Accord) - need some advice by
[email protected]
I am a handy guy (engineering background) and I do quite a bit of my
own work on my car (oil changes, electrical repairs, etc). I am
considering doing my own brake work. With the miles I put on my car
each year, I am servicing both front and rear brakes annually at a
cost of close to $800. I know...

It's official. Manual transmissions are making a comeback. by
Gordon McGrew
There are lots of great statistics at the Government CAFE web site.
Lots of compiled data on cars going back to 1977 (and some even
older.) One interesting trend tracked is the percentage of
automobiles with automatic transmissions.
In 1977, 84.1% of all new cars had AT. Under pressure of...

Increasing fuel mileage by injecting ether. by
Burt Squareman
Several years ago I've read a book on how to inject ether in
low amounts into the carburetor to increase gas mileages.
I'd been wanting to add ether or some octane booster into
the fuel tank and adjust the inputs into the O2 sensor to
trick it to thinking that it's running rich. In theory, I may...
