My 2003 Diesel RR produces clouds of black smoke under acceleration. Diagnostics appear to find nothing wrong. Any ideas anybody please.

Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of using most any electronic aftermarket tach with the stock 6.9 sensor as the sending unit ? Is there an issue with reading accurate RPM on anything OTHER than the stock tach ? Thanks in advance to anyone who may have done this and problems or not they ran into.

I just bought a new battery ,and had the battery and alternator checked and the tech said they are both good . I had a plug in the hitch ,but have since unplugged it and the battery is still loosing charge
