Steam cars by
Don Stauffer
Were steam cars the only steam engines that were legal to operate
without a boiler operators license?
When and how did the steam car manufacturers get laws passed to exempt
steam cars?

Headlights burnt out AGAIN! WTF? by
[email protected]
I have a 2000 Mazda Protege ES with 180k miles on it.
Last June one of my low beams burnt out. So, as a
precaution, I replace ALL the bulbs including tail
lights, etc.
I used Sylvania XtraVision as replacement headlamps....
pretty standard 2003...

'01 Buick Le Sabre SES Light On by
Bob Villa
OBD2 (from AZ) 1.)Low Coolant, 2.)Thermostat defective, 3.)ECT defective Coolant is up to proper level-could there be an air gap at the ECT?
Temp gauge and heat are working.
If there is no air gap at the ECT, that would seem to be bad.

Toyota's reputation needs some TLC by
john
"Over a generation or so, Toyota built its reputation - and U.S.
market share - on dependability, at a time when General Motors, Ford
Motor and Chrysler couldn't shake being identified with lemons.
The company that once could do no wrong has stumbled badly though a
series of embarrassments of...

What's the current recommend on batteries? by
Nate Nagel[_2_]
Who currently makes the best batteries for your car? I've finally kept
a car long enough to wear out a battery I think - the 944 was not happy
at all trying to start in the single digit weather we had yesterday
morning. I know the starter is good because I just had it rebuilt a
couple years...

Ride Softness And Tires ? by
Robert11
Hello,
Thinking of a new 2009 Accord.
Wife has medical problems, and a "soft" ride is very important to her.
Do you think an Accord with 17 inch tires would provide a softer ride
compared to their basic model with 16 inch tires ? Or,...?
Really don't want to get a new Buick LaCrosse, but she...

Which oil filters are best? by
J J
I have not found any independent tests regarding screw on oil filters.
Just from word of mouth I have heard that the NAPA gold or silver, and
the $5 Purolator are the best.
Any thoughts or independent tests on internet you can refer me to?

Hard starting Briggs & Stratton 3.0 hp lawnmower engine by
muzician21
Have a B&S on a 70's era Snapper 21" pusher with an aluminum deck. I
believe the engine is probably 10 years newer than the rest of the
mower.
Maybe 10 years ago I took it to a repair shop who installed a solid
state unit to replace the points. Even with the solid state ignition
it was never...

brake line rust by
George[_23_]
I was under our car ('04 Cavalier) recently, and noticed that the brake
lines are starting to rust. So far, it looks to be just on the surface,
but it will get worse.
Is there anything practical to do, to prevent further deterioration?
Thanks,
George

bent, here's a real-world engineering question. if you're what you
seem to think you are, not what you keep on acting, you should be able
to do the following in a few minutes:
a certain engine manufacturer has two versions of pretty much the same
engine, with a...

Are all nuts and bolts metric on cars that are made overseas ?
How about cars made in the U.S. by "foreign" manufacturers ?
Thanks,

How best to respond to dangerously belligerant bikers (bicyclists) by

How would YOU have handled this dangerous situation?

in my vehicle, on a two lane road (one lane each way).
I encountered, what ultimately showed itself to be a belligerent group of
bikers, who, attacked me en masse, and,...

changing Type T4 fluid every 15K miles, just like regular ATF....

the wrong place.
