I ran across mention of this as an accurate method to analyze exhaust. What is it? Thanks in advance.

How long to REBUILD a TRANSMISSON? by [email protected]
I drive an ice cream truck part-time and the other day my transmission went. The mechanic said that they would either find a used one, which they haven't or he would have to REBUILD one. In general, how many days does it take to REBUILD a transmission on a small truck? And... when you use the...

Leaky A/C by [email protected]
87 Lebaron. Obvious freon blowout under hood but leak not detectable as oily freon is all over the hoses, compressor, hood, etc. Other than fully evacuating and recharging the system including tracer dye to detect the leak, is there a better way to find the leak without spending $200? Can one...

Water Pump Bolts by swimdad16
Once I get the broken water pump bolt removed from my 93 F150 5.0 liter... the next question is what do I use for a replacement? I'm assuming it's a Grade 5 type bolt - is that correct? Do I need to go to a dealer or will any Grade 5 bolt (of the right size obviously_) work?

greasing throwout bearing? by Nate Nagel
what's the trick to greasing a throwout bearing? ISTR you get a pot full of boiling water, fill a smaller pot with grease, set in boiling water and let warm up, dunk bearing in grease and let it "cook" for a while, wipe clean, install. Is this right? There's a reason I'm reusing an old throwout...

oil pressure drop by Ken Hilson
2002 S10 4.3 with about 38k on it. Noticed last night that oil pressure gauge was reading lower than normal. Midscale is 275 kpa (39 PSI) and it normally runs about there or higher when hot at highway speed Last night it was down about 1/4 scale at speed which it normally only would go when at idle...

Plausible Idea?- Titanium Nitride coated crank, rods, valves, etc by PedGuyKev
Hi, first time poster on this group.... thought i'd stray away from some of the other groups/forums/boards and a general audience. Would it be a plausible idea to have a hard coating done on various engine internals? If you didn't know, Titanium Nitride is that golden film stuff you see on drill...

garages really bother doing this ? by jw 1111
Hi, i want to change the spark plugs on my 1995, 1.3 GL Corolla. Does it really make much difference to reset the plug gap when you buy them new. They generally seem just a tad wider than the Toyota car manual recommends. Do most garages really bother doing this I wonder when they change the plugs ?

Whats the point of GM's 4200 Inline-6 "atlas" engine? by Masospaghetti
Look at the performance specs, comparing it to GM's 5300 V8: 4200 I6: DOHC, VVT, 291 HP, 277 lbs-ft, 16/22 mpg 5300 V8: OHV, 300 HP, 330 lbs-ft, 16/22 mpg These engines are both available on GM's midsize SUVs (Envoy, Trailblazer, etc). I recall hearing that the 5300 V8 is actually a good deal...

Non-located wheels - safe? by Old Wolf
My car has aftermarket wheels and they are non-located -- ie. they do not sit over the wheel hub; they are only held on by the four studs and wheel nuts. Also they are somewhat heavier than the factory wheels. This has always concerned me a bit, as it means that the entire weight of the car is...

Bad shimmy upon heavy braking Toyota 4Runner (why?) by Stuart A. Bronstein
Can you help me diagnose what is causing heavy shimmy upon braking? My '98 4Runner 2WD with about 50K miles is vibrating heavily when braking at highway speeds. It does not vibrate under any other conditions. The cause is perplexing me. Here is all that I know. - The 2WD 4Runner is not equipped...

Problem with clutch - bad smell.....Any ideas? by [email protected]
Hi - I own a 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara (and have owned it for over two years). Recently, it has started to emit a really bad burning smell immediately after riding the clutch a bit (like when I am pulling out of a parallel parking spot on a hill). My car NEVER did this before and just starting...

Question for dealership auto techs by [email protected]
I work at a Chevy dealership. I was pulling a monstrous SUV into a tight stall and scraped the side. I am told that I need to pay for the $600 in damages. Shouldn't the dealership have insurance for this? This is the first time I have ever done this.
