Heat from the AH Supply Bright Kit #30552 ?? by Shawn P. Good
Hi .... Last week I purchased a 2x55w Bright Kit #30552 to retrofit my standard 48" single bulb light strip. I finally had a chance to wire it up today. I also bought two 55w 6700K bulbs. I just came into the room to shut it off for the night (one complaint - no on/off switch - have to...

goldfish eating my plants by Cammie
I have 3 large goldfish (actually red cap orandas) and they either eat every plant I put in the tank, or they suck on them so all the leaves fall off. Are there any plants that goldfish do not like the taste of?

Plant Fertilizer by J
This is posting on e-bay. It was difficult to find these fertilizers. I hope a serious hobbyist can enjoy this. I am not in the hobby any more due to personal reason. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2383746616&category=20757&sspagename=STRK%3AMESSE%3AIT&rd=1

Japonica breeding habits by Bruce Abrams
Anyone know anything about the breeding habits of Amano shrimp? While looking at my tank this afternoon, my attention was drawn to some movement on my Nutrafin CO2 bubble counter and I noticed a small, 1/4" long shrimp. None of the 10 shrimp that I've purchased over the last several months...

where does my Iron go? by stephane
Hi all, I've recently started testing iron in my 75 gal planted tank (4x55 watt CF 5000K). I've got a medium plant load, I think - 2 large, 4 medium, 5-6 small, swords and anubias and java ferns mostly, and some floating hornwort that I cut back weekly to just fill in the spaces (fish = 30 neons, 2...

Surface turbulance in a planted non CO2 inject tank, good or bad? by Harry Muscle
I know that surface turbulence is bad in a planted CO2 injected tank since it drives off the extra CO2 that is pumped into the tank. However, what about a planted non CO2 injected tank, like mine? I'm setting up a 55G planted tank with 1.75wpg, and instead of CO2 I'm using Flourish Excel. Do I...

Sodium (Na) - How bad for plants? by Aqua
I am reading from old archives of this group that "too much sodium will kill the plants". I think my well water contains good amount of Sodium. My soap forms bubbles instead of scum. I guess that means I have more Na instead of Mg or Ca. Any articles in this regard or any pointers would be...

Slightly OT SOF****ER question by DJay
Have any of you experienced leaky faucets after using a water softener? I just bought and moved into a 12-year-old house. The previous owner had the Kenmore water softener in bypass. Checked the GH and with the unit in bypass at the tap it was 13 dh or about 234 ppm. I cranked up the softener...

"Black Beauty" Sand blasting Grit by Steve Thorp
Hi : I found this material where I work in a hotel, we use it as an attractive public ashtray filler for people to put their cig. butts out. It's a real nice semi-shiny black color. I did some research on the product, it is called "Black Beauty" Slag Products by Reed Minerals. Its main use is for...

Fluorite - How much rinsing ???!!! by Nemo
I picked up two bags of fluorite for my 25G. The instructions on the bag say rinse before use to wash off the dust. Well I rinsed for over an hour in a 22L bucket and the water is still brown. It seems that warm/hot water get dirtier than cold(er) water. Am I simply washing off the fines, or am I...
