Ignition question involving use of ballast resistor by
Jack[_22_]
1987 Dodge Dakota 3.9L carbed
I recently posted on rec.autos.tech about the problems I was having with
an MSD 5900 Blaster ignition and an MSD 8202 Baster 2 coil. It seems I
could use one or the other with no problem, either the MSD ignition with
the stock coil or the MSD coil with the stock...

95 Dodge Grand Caravan heating system problem by
Steve Walker[_1_]
3.3 engine. Low temperature heat, temperature increases as engine speed
increases. Gauge holds steady and hasn't changed lower or higher since
problem started. Changed coolant heater flow valve, then thermostat.
Checked all vacuum doors, and heater cable. Everything is functioning
properly....

Crap Starters by
[email protected][_2_]
I'm trying to find a rebuilt starter for my 94 Saturn. Every store
I've gone to has these pieces of garbage with motors that are 2/3 the
size of my old one and look like tin cans with a squirrel cage motor
instead of the rolled steel body of the Delco. What the h**l is going
on? Pep Boys version...

Steam cars by
Don Stauffer
Were steam cars the only steam engines that were legal to operate
without a boiler operators license?
When and how did the steam car manufacturers get laws passed to exempt
steam cars?

LED taillight question by
Tegger[_2_]
Incandescent bulbs have a steady glow. When at night you're behind cars
with incandescent taillights and you make your eyes scan quickly from one
side to the other, the taillights will appear to leave a solid streak in
your field of vision.
I've noticed that there are certain makes of cars with...

ChrisCoaster
Now that I'm driving a car with conventional power steering, I'd like
to ask this:
Are there any LEGAL and SAFE ways to modify any conventional hydraulic
PS system to reduce the amount of assist it generates, even if only

Car won't start, TPS question by
George[_23_]
(99 Cavalier 2.2 auto) ...
Which suddenly won't start. Cranks, has spark. No diagnostic codes.
I haven't checked fuel yet (the pump does run), because I'm having
trouble disconnecting the GD 'quick disconnects'. For now, I'll leave
that till later.
Using 'Proscan' OBD software (on a laptop),...

Why not use crankshaft weights on any vee engine? by
[email protected]
Hi - I'm trying figure out if crankshaft counterweights can be
effectively used on other engines besides 90 degree v8s with
crossplane cranks.
In reading about crossplane v8s, it is explained that the crankshaft
causes pistons to go in opposite directions at each end of the engine
which would...

Re the display that shows the approx. mpg:

Mystery of the Millennial car trade by
jmm1951
Today I read the CarFax report on a car I am thinking of buying--a
2000 Toyota Camry 4-cylinder with 105,000 miles. It seems to be in
excellent condition.
Here is the mystery. It had only two owners. The first private owner
had it for 32 days and put 5,00 miles on it. On 1/1/2000 he sold it to
a...
