Grabbing on front end of 1998 Explorer by
Silverbirdflyer
After driving for awhile and stopping then start driving again it soundsand
feels like the 4WD is engaging on the front wheels. Is this the result of a
need for a fluid top off?

Explorer Console Repair Kit Available by
S Hess
If you are suffering from the ever so common problem of the cracking console
cover on the Explorer (and I've seen them on the Mountaineers), you may want
to check into the replacement kit at www.fixyourford.com. I was able to
replace my own worn console from my 1998 Explorer and pleasantly...

Just bought a 2004 with 29,000 miles by
Jah Free I
I just bought a 2004 Explorer XLT with 29,000 miles (for $19,888).
I didn't get get extended warranty since it still has factory 6,000 more
factory warranty miles left.
Is the reliability of this vehicle good, or should I purchase the warranty
before the 6000 miles is up?

2002 XLS - driveshaft seal leak by
knagy389us
After 11.5K miles I noticed a drip right at the transfer case. Covered
under Ford service, but I'm concerned there's something else going on,
seals don't go bad that quick.
BTW, I believe I'm starting to hear the dreaded whine under acceleration
at hwy speeds.

towing capacity by
mrdenial
Hello everyone.
I'm looking for a work truck to pull around a trailer that could weight
up to 6k. I also want to be able to pull around a trailer that has a
bobcat on it.
I was looking at an 86 ford f-250. From what I'm seeing, the towing
capacity was around 9,000lbs. This is under half of...

99 explorer sport- 1/2 second stall in snow by
gymper
Hi all,
I've been noticing (strangely) when it's either snowing or whether
leading up to snow, the engine will stall for like 1/2 a second and
then return to normal. It does this intermittently. This caused a
check engine code of p1500 for vss (variable speed sensor). Before
this I had codes...

You people saved me $2000! Because of the help I received here, I did not
let my shop (ex-shop) replcae the A4LD tranny in my 94 Explorer. I replaced
the $37 vacuum modulator instead. Been driving it for a couple of weeks now
and it is DEFINATELY fixed!
I took the advice of someone and pulled the...

Dim Message Center. 02 by
Dave Hollis & Penny Williams
The message center in my 02 Eddie Bauer is dim. I can't see it on sunny
days. It is readable on cloudy days and nights. It is much dimmer than the
radio readout, for example.
Has anybody had this problem and fixed it or had it fixed? Are all 02s like
that? I don't think it was like that when...

Wrong Lubricant In Transmission by
Big Shoe
I got a letter from Ford today saying that the transmission in my '05
Limited had been "filled with a fluid formulation that, over time, may
cause delayed/harsh reverse engagements". Ford offers to have the
dealer install a bottle of additive to correct the formulation of the
transmission...

diagnosing clutch issues by
[email protected]
OK, I seem to have some issues getting into 1st gear on a 1996 manual
4WD sport. Also you have to delay some to move to other gears. Pedal
seems 'springy', or close to normal - hard to say.
When I switch the engine off, it slides into 1st effortlessly.
The clutch fluid level is correct.
I had a...

Temp guage was acting funny. For awhilw it would read normal at running

then fluctuating back to resting position. Now it's seems totally dead.
Replaced sending unit, no change. Once in a blue moon it will read...
