Brake Job...? by Hachiroku $B%O%A%m%/(B[_2_]
I put some new lower control arms on my Mazda a couple weeks ago, and a cursory check revealed my front pads were getting pretty low. So I ordered up a pile of parts, and today was just warm enough to get the fronts done. Now, I got this car (1989 Mazda 626) back in December of 2006, and looked at...

My Plymouth seems to be out of gas, but it's above the E. Could water get in there and how do you get it out? Thanks. -- Reply in group, but if emailing add one more zero, and remove the last word.

Need to replace 1970 Eldorado starter by The Derfer[_2_]
I need to replace the starter on my 1970 Eldorado. I start the car, the engine takes a second or two to try to start, then I get a sort of electric hissing. But on this car, where IS the starter Motor? I know what it looks like but why's it so tough to get to?

Stripped Oil Pan Plug by The Doctor
While changing the oil on my well- used Honda Accord, I noticed that the oil pan bolt is totally stripped. I don't have time to tap/chase the threads so I need a quick fix. I heard they make tapered self- tapping oil pan repair kits. I cannot find them, though. Any ideas on where this is available?...

1999 Honda Civic, front suspension disassembly by Tim Wescott
Any trustworthy on-line information on taking down the front suspension on a 1999 Honda Civic? Or recommendations on a good book? #1 son sideswiped a car a few months ago, I'm finally getting a chance to take a look at things -- it'll need a lower A-arm and some steering components, at the...

Pontiac Aztec - occasional check engine light and total drop on temp guage by techman41973
I have a friend with a 2001 Pontiac Aztec, where occasionally the check engine light comes on and the temp gauge completely drops counterclockwise to cold. The problem often goes away the next time the engine is started. My guess would be a faulty thermostat. I would like to hear from others on...

Disconnecting alternator from car.... by Existential Angst[_2_]
to run on battery only.... Any idea on how much gas this would save? I noticed a substantial increase in my mpg's when my alternator went, on a Mazda 929S -- mebbe 15-20%? If this observation was accurate, it would make sense to hump around a spare battery, and operate without an alternator --...

Ding resistant car? by bob
Long time ago saturn cars were equipped with plastic doors that are ding resistant. That sounds like a good idea. Why didn't plastic door become the norm? Even though I'm very careful parking my car, I still get door dings.

1991 Dodge Caravan - Tachometer by redryderridesagain
The vehicle mentioned in the title has 300,000 KM. Recently noticed the tachometer rises smoothly with pressure on the accelerator, but seems to over-register the engine rpm. The vehicle behave normally in all other respects and the transmission fluid is bright pink. Could the pickup or ECM, or...

2005 Lincoln Town Car AC recharge problem by The Derfer[_2_]
I recharged my AC myself with one of those cans of EZ Chill R134a. Here's what happened: after about 5 minutes of releasing the refrigerant into the low side fill input, I got it to the roughly 50-55 psi pressure recommended for this, a 2005 Lincoln Town Car. Now I have a new problem: the clutch...

Photoblocker paint vs. license plate flipper.... by Existential Angst[_2_]
Quite a few comments on photoblockers call them junk.... Mythbusters is cited as busting them. Some even say the license plate covers don't work. If this is true, it would appear that the only solution is license plate flippers. One example: http://www.flipaplate.com/carflipper.html, video at...
