stretched timing belt? by
[email protected]
A friend of mine has an Astra. It came up with error code P14 (exhaust cam
advanced). I replaced the camshaft control solenoid, and it was okay for
a short while.
But then started losing power, stalling and throwing more error codes.
So she took it to a dealer workshop. Their diagnosis was...

Volvo 240 main FI relay wiring? by
[email protected]
OK.... it's an intermittent fault so the mechanic will NEVER find it. I
of course suspect the main relay (replaced once, like 10 years ago).
So... thought I'd wire in a switch across the terminals which I could
use to bypass it when it is being uncooperative, and either prove or
disprove the relay...

How long can a popping CV joint last? by
[email protected]
I have been driving with a bad inner cv joint for about a year now. It doesn't rattle when you turn it vibrates when accelarating when going uphill. (Not wheel allignment). Obviously i use it in town only and i dont go fast. I've done about 10.000 km. I mean to fix it next month.

Do we really need to use "dri gas" anymore? by
[email protected]
Years ago it was common to put a can of "dri gas" into the tank with each fill up to absorb any water that might have gotten into the fuel. After awhile we were told that the dri gas was added at the refinery to prevent problems in the delivery trucks and so it as not needed anymore. Now with the...

Screwdriver bits by
Tom Del Rosso[_5_]
I just twisted a torx bit into a spiral trying to remove a rusted screw,
then used a Dremel to cut a slot across the top and took it out with a
flat screwdriver. The screwdriver didn't bend at all.
None of the bits I ever saw are made of hardened steel like a
single-piece screwdriver. Does...

1988 Crown Victoria: Slipping in Overdrive by
PastTense
I have a 1988 Crown Victoria with a 5.0 engine--with 110,000 miles on
it.
A few days ago when I stopped the car wouldn't go into reverse. After
a while of shifting through gears, shutting the car off, restarting
reverse suddenly started working again. I drove it 20 miles to my
mechanic. He found...

Wheel bolt pattern... by
Phil Kangas[_2_]
Is the lug bolt pattern for a '03 Buick Century the same
as the lug bolt pattern for a '05 Buick LaCrosse?
The '03 has 15" wheels, the '05 has 16" wheels.
I don't have access to the LaCrosse yet to measure it.
My gut says no they won't fit but I'm asking anyway.

Can you teach me more about lug bolts & related tire tools? by
ultred ragnusen
Can you teach me more about lug bolts & related tire tools on this vehicle
whose tires I rotated today and which I plan on rotating every 4K miles (6K
km).
First question is what is the practical difference between these three 21mm
(13/16ths) "sockets" for the lug bolts on the car I was working on...

Vibration at 50 to 60 mph coasting in neutral after rear brake shoes by
ultred ragnusen
Just replaced the rear brake shoes with the result of vibration at 50 to 60
mph which was unrelated to braking or the transmission where I'd like to
learn from your experience what happened.
