Transfer case chain wear ? by
Gerald Riggs
I'm going to be pulling both front and rear driveshafts out of my 97 5.0L
AWD X to get balanced and was wondering how I could determine if the AWD
Transfer Case Chain was worn. The X has 120k miles. Would be a good time to
do any repairs.
Thanks - Gerald

2003 Explorer - cracked rear lift-gate by
kannan_ram_srini
I am new to the group and am unsure if this question has been asked
before. If it has, please accept my apologies in advance and direct me
to the previous thread on this topic.
I used the remote to open the rear lift gate on my Explorer last night.
While opening it, I noticed a crack about 1/8 in....

94 AC Compressor Replacement by
rj
The clutch seized on my AC compressor so I've picked up a new/reman from the
parts house. Questions:
1) Tag on new compressor says is shipped with "minimal" oil. What kind of,
how much and where should oil be added?
2) Got a new "dryer" at the same time but see no way to "break" the old one
out....

Wireless Keyless Entry by
Teleplus Gatineau
Proud owner of a 99 XLT. I just purchased the keyless entry add-on package.
(not the one that is wired) Anyways, You are supposed to stick it to where
you want using the double sided super tape it comes with (don't touch your
finger to it...took my a while to get it off!)
I placed it in the...

92 Explorer transfer case neutral option?? by
Professor3700
Have a 92 Explorer with the electric shift. Obviously there is no Ford
provided selectable neutral so I can disengage both drive shafts for
towing behind an RV. I know there is a dealer option for the '96 and
newer transfer cases that does allow disengagement of both drive shafts.
I expected...

'94 Center Brake Light by
Richard Minami
Anyone know of a place that sells the center brake lamp socket assembly
online? I've been running on one light (the incorrect, dim one at that) for
a number of years now, because I just can't bring myself to spend $120 for a
piece of plastic. Has anyone been able to do anything with LEDs? Now...

trouble starting - 2000 explorer by
Dave Payne
I've been having some problems with my 2000 explorer (V6-XLT model). It has
trouble starting sometimes. Tonight when I got ready to leave work, it
started for about 5 seconds, idled rough, and then cut off. Then it
wouldn't start at all after about 4 tries. I went back into the office to
call...

General 4WD Questions ('92 mainly) by
Ulysses
Hi everybody,
I live in South California and we've been getting a lot of rain lately (at
least WE think it's a lot) so I've been driving through some deep mud
lately. When driving through the mud my Explorer (I have a '91 and my wife
drives a '92EB) sometimes the car goes sideways, especially if...

04s20 Recall 2002 by
JaWise
I got the recall done on my explorer yesterday for the rear glass. It doesn't
look to me like they have done anything to fix the problem with the brackets
for the strut rotating and the strut popping off? Has anyone else had this
done? I thought they were installing some kind of redesigned...

Help - '91 4x4 shift motor install by
[email protected]
Hi,
I installed a new (rebuilt) electric shift motor on the transfer case.
It still won't work. The module in back does click when I push the
dash button. Is it possible that I need to adjust the sensor position
on the motor by loosening the three screws and rotating the back plate
on the gear...

Far Rear Power Outlet? by
CWLee
I have a 2000 Explorer. I'd like to install a 12 volt power
outlet near the far rear, similar to a cigarette lighter
outlet. Is there already a source of 12 volts in that area,
not dependent on lights or rear wiper being on? Any ideas
appreciated.

Engine Whine by
Hairy
Can anyone tell me what would make a sound like a jet turbine winding up on
my '01 4.0L Sport Trac? It started as I was leaving a stop light and
increased in pitch as I accelerated. When I let off of the gas, the pitch
stayed the same until I was almost stopped, then the noise stopped just like
I'd...

Anyone off road with these things?? Just a few questions... by
garzajd
I have a 91 explorer (4x4 of course). Have had it for about a year did
some minor work to it, installed aftermarket stereo, changed passenger
front window motor, driver rear window cable assembly -- which was all
the basic work it needed.
I finally got to take it off road (in stock condition)...
