synthetic oils by d745
2003 silverado, 4wd, 6.0 liter engine, 4:10 rears. I would appreciate your comments on using Amsoil as motor oil. And using synthetic oils in the transmission and differentials. I don’t know which oils to use in the transmission and differentials suggestions would be appreciated.

What is a truly versatile 4x4 truck? by Roddytoo
You in the UK? If yes, there is a limit to the length you are permitted to tow without an HGV type hitch. The type of vehicle I think you are describing, though it is not at all clear, would not have such a hitch. Good luck with finding your dream vehicle, I am not sure it exists. "Omega"...

What's the best stock 4x4 system for snow? by Christopher Grenness
I'm looking for a 4x4 car that will excel in snowy conditions. I've had a '91 Jeep Cherokee, a '97 Jeep Wrangler Sport and a '01 Land Rover Discovery II. All of them were equipped with stock 4x4 systems, and none of them impressed me when it came to deep snow capabilities (not so deep that they...

Thieves breaking into the rear of the RAV4 by [email protected]
Dear RAV4 owners, I currently have a sedan with a trunk, where the valuables are locked. Bicycle (but it's really a tight fit). Shoulder bag which is always with me. Cameras. Laptop. Etc. I'm thinking of getting a RAV4 for the bigger towing capacity (6 x 12 trailer from UHaul),

Spark plug cleaning by Stormin Mormon
My Dodge van has 8 cylinders. Eight plugs. Two bucks each. $16. I know that's not a heck of a lot of money, but it hurts to throw them out just cause they have a little bit of carbon on them. How to clean spark plugs? Ideas? -- Christopher A. Young

Incredibly hard-to-remove lugnuts by James P. H. Fuller
Just lugnuts on a farm trailer wheel, but I can't get them off. They've been on for years, probably put on with an air wrench, certainly good'n'rusted. I've tried socket wrench, cross wrench, electric impact wrench, they won't budge. I've used a gallon of Liquid Wrench, no joy. I took the trailer...

Cooling Fan??? by Zenteren
Hi, I have suzuki samurai 1.3 liter engine with viscous clutch cooling fan, it is wear out and cannot spin fan fast enough to cool the engine. I'm thinking to get out clutch system and make an adapter to connect pulley and fan directly to each other. My fan is connected to the water pump...

Texas Rav4 in mountains of Colorado a bad idea? by TNapalm
I'm moving to the mountains of Colorado in a few weeks, and have been looking at a 2dr '96 5spd Rav4 to take up there. Recently, a lot of people I know began to warn me that such a light-weight car wouldn't handle very well on snow/ice/whatever, and I'd end up in a terrible crash (also due to the...

Bring back the Brat or modernize the Wrangler by Carl Taylor
This is a request for Subaru, Jeep, Toyota, etc. to produce something like the old Subaru Brat, which was essentially a 4WD car with low range gearing. With today's engine technology it could get gas mileage in the low to mid 30s on the highway, while having true off-road capability. Today's...

Wiring for Winch by Scott C.
I am installing a Warn 8274 winch and need some help with what size of wires to use going to the Battery. My instincts say use 2 ga. Is this right? Also, is it important to run the ground directly to the Battery terminal instead of grounding it via the engine block or frame? By the way, how does...

Air Spring experiences by David Thomas
I'm considering adding rear air springs to my '99 Toyota 4Runner to level the 4x4 when towing our 2003 Coleman Santa Fe pop-up camper. I'm mainly concerned about the coil springs rubbing holes in the air bags over time. This is my wife's kid taxi so no plans for mudding or any rough off-road...

Glummer H2 by Enough Already
http://enough_already.tripod.com/glummer_h2.jpg Some may call it a convenient scapegoat but this vehicle embodies everything that's wrong with American culture and "conserv"ative rationales for waste. With their typically spotless paint and waxed tires it's clear most civilian Hummers aren't...

Part Time 4x4 Problem....Any ideas? by [email protected]
Hi - I've had my car (2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara) for a couple of years now and hardly ever use the 4x4 since it's part time and I rarely drive it in the snow. The times when I have used it in the snow, it totally sucked! I thought it was my bald tires, so I recently got new tires. This winter...

Opinions wanted Landcruiser vs. 4runner by clangq
I'm planning to buy a used SUV in the very near future. I'd narrowed it down to an early 90's 4runner. When looking around, though, I noticed one or 2 1990 Landcruisers in the same price range. Looking for some experienced opinions on which would better suit my needs. This rig will be used as a...
