need advice on Tranny problem, 92 stick by
~Mike Hollywood
Hi,
I bought a '92 a couple years ago, and it has 85,000 miles on it now.
For the past few months it's been getting harder, and harder to shift, and
today,
there for a while, I couldn't get into any gear at all, but I finally manged
to
get it into 5th and drove home feathering the clutch at every...

rearview mirror stuck on 1992 miata by
~Mike Hollywood
Hi,
the passenger side rear view mirror is manually adjusted, and it is stuck on
the ball joint or whatever the stalk is called that it is sitting on.
I put some torque on it and it didn't budge.
Is it ok to really twist it hard to free it?
What's the best way to proceed?
Thanks,
Mike

'92 doesn't crank by
~Mike Hollywood
Hi,
I garaged my '92 in May in Florida, and then left until yesterday. Last
night I tried to start it but the battery was dead. I charged the battery
over night. It is fully charged now. Turning the key all's ok, fans spin,
dash lights go on, etc, but when I turn the key to the last position...

driving question, re oversteering by
~Mike Hollywood
Hi,
Suppose you're driving on asphalt.
In a rear wheel drive car like the miata, if you go into a turn too fast,
and
the back starts to slide, what's the safest way to correct? I'm pretty sure
you want to stay off the brakes because that would throw more weight
forward and lighted rear traction...

Where should worn tires go, fornt or back? by
~Mike Hollywood
Hi,
Somewhere along the line somebody told me to always put the best tires on
the back because in case of a blow out, you have some control of the frount
through the steering, but on the back you have none. So that's what I
alwasy did. Today, at a tire store, in conversation, the salesman told...

flashing airbag light, how make it stop? by
~hpXH535~
Hi,
I bought a '92 that was crashed. The repair shop didn't replace the airbag.
It deployed in the crash. So now the airbag light flashes continuously.
How can I make it stop flashing?
Thanks,
Mike

'92 Miata, surging problem, 85,000 miles. by
~AlicGinnis~
Hi,
I bought this car used 2 years ago. It had been left out under a tree, and
the drain line from the fuel filler well was clogged. Rain overflowed the
well and went into the gas tank. The seller drained the tank, and got it
going. I put some alcohol fuel treatment in it a couple of times...

update on '92 stuck mirrors by
~AlicGinnis~
Hi,
A long time ago I posted here asking about how to fix my mirrors that
wouldn't budge. I was given advice on how to proceed and here's what
happened.
I started with the passenger side. By sticking a screwdriver in a small
slot at the base of the housing the housing popped off its...

what's involved in putting an air bag back in a '92? by
~ Avery Anderson~
Hi,
I just bought a 92 Miata that had been in an accident that caused the airbag
to deploy. The car was repaired and sold sans the airbag to the guy I
bought it from who has been driving it for 4 years without an airbag.
Is this something a back yard mechanic can do, or is it better left to...

Ticking noise from RH wheel arch on NA solved by
Zog The Undeniable
Driver's side in the UK/Japan/Australia, so it's easier to hear. At
first it sounds like an HLA or a stone caught in the tyre tread, but it
doesn't vary with road speed or engine rpm. Far more noticeable with
the top down.
Only does it when the car is under power and on a light throttle...

Changing inlet manifold coolant hose on an NA by
Zog The Undeniable
There's one small bore hose which runs under the inlet manifold. It's
the only hose I haven't changed yet, because I can't even see the end of it.
Any tips? Do you have to go in through the wheel arch?

Alignment recommendations for non-PAS NA? by
Zog The Undeniable
I'm having replacement shocks and springs (not lowered; they're original
1990-spec) fitted next week and will need to get the car set up again
afterwards. I don't want to alter the normal understeer/oversteer
characteristics of the standard Mazda geometry (I'm no Schumacher and as
it is, I can...

Ride height by
Zog The Undeniable
Here's a bit of weirdness.
My 1997 car sat a bit higher at the front than at the rear, so I assumed
the springs had sagged. I was given some springs from an earlier (1990)
car which measured exactly the specified free lengths and therefore
couldn't have sagged. On fitting these the F/R...

Again frozen door weatherstriip. by
Zing
We've had some icy misty foggy nights here in NJ.
My door weatherstripping on my 2002 Protege had some minor problems
with being frozen to the door frame.
In the fall I used a rag and sprayed it liberally with Permatex
silicone and wiped several times the weatherstripping and door frame
where it...

Block drain plug location ?????? by
Zing
I want to drain the antifreeze on my 2002 Mazda Protege with the 2.0
litre engine. Yes, I know it is a Miata group, but many have Proteges
also.
I had a 1997 Protege and the owner's manual showed a block drain under
the exhaust manifold. Never did find it. My daughter has the car now.
I looked...

On first oil change by
zenmartini[_2_]
What sadist decided to put the Miata oil filter where it is? I could
barely get my hand under and through..much less any kind of an oil
filter wrench. I finally got a pair of dish washing gloves which gave
me the leverage but I couldn't pull my hand and filter back out the
way I put my hand in.....

Timing belt question by
zenmartini
I know the timing belt is supposed to be replaced at 60k. My 2000 is
at 75k but the belt is in good condition... no nicks etc. Money is
tight at the moment... how much longer can I go before this has to be
replaced... I know that I'll be stuck wherever I am but there is no
damage that can occur...

Almost dead in my 2000.. by
zenmartini
Last Friday I got onto the Garden State Parkway (in Northern NJ) to
begin my drive back
down to Tampa. As I pulled away from the toll booth and accelerated to
about 60, the car to my left veered into my lane. The only thing that
I could do was move to the right... really I just reacted and...
