94 Dodge Colt problem by [email protected]
My Colt standard runs fine, but if I let it sit for over a day and start it up, it will run for about 5 minutes before it starts to struggle. After the first 5 minutes, it will sometimes konk out when I stop or it will sound like it is only on 1 cylinder and struggles to move. When this happens,...

Aluminum rim sealing. by Bob Urz
I have a few aluminum rims with tubeless tires that i seem to have a continuing slow leaking problem. Any tips on how to seal these up more permanent? Most of the auto parts store seem to just have the stuff to put in the whole tire to seal punctures. (green slime ?) I just want to seal the bead...

brake pad/rotor wear pattern. by Ken Hilson
When replacing flat with spare on left front on my 2002 S10 I took look at brake pads/rotor. At 36k there is lots of pad left but I notice rotor wear odd. On outside the outer 1 1/14 in. is normal wear but the inner 3/4 is not wearing even though pad covers that area. You can feel that that the...

wacky idea - non-smoking oil? by N8N
OK, so I'm an engineer, not a chemist... but while stuck in traffic today behind yet another oil-burning minivan (guess the mfgr - go ahead) was idly wondering about something. Oil is basically a hydrocarbon, yes? So why, in this day and age of emission controls and oxygen sensors and...

'90 T-Bird electrical probs - Ignition switch? by [email protected]
T-Bird won't start sometimes. Turns over fine, but nothing seems to get to plugs. When it happens, seat belt doesn't move when key is turned. Seat belt always slides into position over the door when engine starts. Foot is on brake pedal and shifter is in park. For months I couldn't predict if...

Ford Power Window Motors by BobW
I have a 84 Ford LTD 4-door that was sitting for about 3 years. A number of things suffered as it wasn't prep'ed first and the windshield leaked so plenty of moisture is involved. None of the electric windows would move so I started checking. At the fuse panel, I'm only getting about 6.5 volts...

No start: Motorcraft 2150 255 cu in ford by Martik
Cannot start unless I pour 1-2 oz of gas down the carb, then it idles and drives ok but will not restart after turning off. Choke is working. Ignition and Fuel pump pressure are good. This problem just started with no prior symptoms. I've tried starting with pedal floored, part way, 1 or more pumps...

1987 olds delta 88. by Matt
Hello, and thanks in advance for any advice provided. I have an olds 1987 delta 88. I can't find an engine code, it's a 3.8L, I count 6 spark plug wires, but all the parts stores tell me this model is only available in a V8. So, I have no idea what model or even really what size the motor is,...

Owner's manual got stolen in while in dealer body shop. And I got el cheapo Haynes manual from Pepboy (cheapest quality paper print, $16). Anyhow: 1. What is transfer case? It looks like a connection between transmission and drive shaft. 2. Haynes manual indicates Dexron III for...

Hello again, Pontiac 6000 4 door SDN (no SE or LE) 2.5 4tech 3 speed automatic. Greater Pittsburgh area. The fuel lines at the top of the fuel tank are leaking slightly and should be an issue any day. The inspection mech said not to try to splice neoprine on to them, though I don't see why other...

Need GMC Van Air Conditioning advice by Larry Webb
I'm a mechanic but never spent much time on air con repairs. I recently purchased a 1997 GMC Safari but the compressor wouldn't engage so I figured the 134 was low. I had it charged and it worked great for a day but there must be a leak. The condenser looked pretty rough so I bought an excellent...
