Car-Based Explorer? by
Big Shoe
There was a report in this morning's paper saying that Ford will
change the Explorer to a car-based vehicle at the next major update in
three years. It said that the new Explorer would be based on the same
platform as the 500 and Freestyle. This sounds like the plan is to do
a major upgrade to...

What's This Thing . . . ? by
NickD
On my '93 4.0 Explorer XLT there is a black plastic oblong (or
sausage) shaped container of some sort on the passenger side of the
motor. It's about 10 inches long and 3-4 inches around and has what
appears to be hard plastic vacuum lines attached to it. It's pictured
in my cheapie Chilton's...

Engine running hot (or temp gauge showing it is) by
TTU
Hello.
Okay so this started yesterday night. My wife and I were on vacation
and had our 2001 Explorer parked over at a friend's house after being
dropped off at the airport. We came back and it was covered with
sawdust (my friend had been doing a little wood cutting).
So, we get in and drive...

97 Explorer Sport cold start problems by
John Mull
I have a 97 Explorer Sport with 4.0 SOHC. What happens is when it's cold
out usually below 30 degrees it'll start fine then they rpms drop way down
and she'll sputter then rev then sputter. It'll do that for 30 or 40 seconds
then idle normal. Had it at the garage and it shows no error codes....

Hitch to 95 XLT by
[email protected]
I was thinking of adding a hitch to a 95 XLT. Any idea what something
like this might cost? I'm only looking to use it for a bike rack, or
cooler rack, so I really won't be needing the light wires, just the
hardware hitch piece.
Any idea?

My 02 Explorer's hood won't latch shut. Took out the assembly, lubed it,

2005 Explorer Automatic Door Locks by
straycat
I have a 2005 Explorer and have noticed a couple of bass-ackwards ways of
dealing with the automatic door locks. This is the first car I've ever
seen that does this:
First of all when you unlock the doors from the INSIDE, it only unlocks
the driver door, unless you hit the unlock again. I unlock...

Sudden increase in RPM cured by depressing pedal????? by
Michael Horowitz
I was driving ('97 Explorer) at highway speed when I heard something
under the hood very loudly and very rapidly increase in RPM. My first
thought was the engine had slipped out of drive, but taking my foot
off the accelerator had no effect and the RPM gauge was falling.
When I applied accelerator...

brakes by
mab6680[_2_]
I'm going to try my best to explain this so bare with me. Over the last
year or so the brake pedal will get low and mushy. Here's the part that
has me baffled it doesn't happen immediately. This is so gradual It will
take a month or two before it is noticeable. If you have to stomp on the
pedal to...

Any advance info on significant changes planned for the 06
model year? The design is probably frozen by now, and very
little chance of significant changes between now and
September.

96 xl explorer clutch fluid loss 5spd manual by
darren
I am losing clutch fluid but I cannot see where it is going as there do not
appear to be any leaks. The clutch is not slipping and I do not smell
anything burning. It takes approx 2-4 weeks for the fluid to drain from the
reserve and then I am unable to change gears while the motor is running....

I, too, initially went with the new power supply from Pioneer when my radio

Proper Tire Rotation Method by
Kevin DeAngelis
I have a '96 EB 4x4. According to the owner's guide, the proper way to
rotate four tires is to move the rear tires to the front, with the tires
remaining on the same side of the vehicle. The front tires are to switch
sides when moving to the rear of the truck.
My company maintains a large fleet...
