Paul Scrutton
Contemplating doing a compression test on my V6 pushrod (1996) Explorer

procedure appears to be:-
1) remove all spark plugs.
2) Block throttle wide open
3) Disconnect primary wires from the coil.
4) Insert gauge and crank 4...

NEW PROFESSIONAL PAINT CHIP AND SCRATCH TOUCHUP KIT.
Now for the first time you can get the same results dealers enjoy. If you
can wash and wax your car you can eliminate those unsightly paint chips and

2002 Explorer Rear End Clicking - Help! by
Topshelf 14
My '02 Explorer has developed an clicking sound in the rear end of the
vehicle. The best way I can describe the sound is that it sounds like
turning a child-proof medicine bottle top without pressing down on it.
The noise is intermittent and can be heard both when braking or driving
at a constant...

Removing Gasoline Odor by
CWLee
About a pint of gasoline was spilled in the far back of my
station wagon. Odor remains a week later, although I've put
hundreds of miles on the car with all windows, including the
rear window, open. Any suggestions for getting rid of the
odor? Thanks.

Getting rid of '92 Explorer XLT by
g the b
I have a '92 Explorer XLT (4x4 4.0 6 cylinder) that I've decided to get
rid of. I've had it for about a year now but it needs a new head gasket
and exhaust. Considering what I just paid for it not that long ago I
don't feel like sinking much money into it. Besides for the gasket and
exhaust...

Fuel Reset? by
D.D. Palmer
Today I was riding as a front passenger in our 2003 Mountaineer. I noticed
about ankle level there is a groove in the plastic kick panel that says
"Fuel Reset" or something like that. What the heck is it?

98 explorer idle problem by
emtpkluck649
I have a 98 explorer with 85k on it I have started to have problems with
the idle again. It will not hold a constant idle and the starting has been
slower than usual. Last year I replaced the IAC valve along with the plugs
and wires. I was wondering if this could be a mass air flow sensor...

I have a replacement DPFE, and I'm ready to get rid of the pesky MIL
indicator (check engine light) so I can get my '97 Explorer inspected and
avoid paying the NC government $250 for emissions issues. :-)
PROBLEM: Can't locate the darned thing on the engine.
There's a beautiful picture of the...

My 97' Eddie Bauer Explorer by
krazyk
Recently while driving my truck no more than 26 miles to and from to work
my temperature gage will fluctuate to hot. But as I check under my hood
the engine's cool. My on-board computer also says "engine temp ok." As I
stop for a minute and let the truck idle, when I take off again the temp
gage...

Ford's new tire recommendation by
stevie
I have noticed that Ford is recommending that tires be replaced after six
years, regardless of the remaining tread. Apparently, they have determined
that the tire's internal components are subject to failure after 6 years and
the tires are no longer safe. Ford also says to discard the spare, even...

Dealer being reasonable? by

Was just hoping that someone might have an opinion as to whether my
dealer might be trying to take advantage of me. Dropped my 99 Explorer
XLT V-6 SOHC (69,000 miles) off at the dealer this morning for what I
thought was a slipping serpentine belt. Calls me a few hours later and
tells me that it...

2002 Explorer electrical question by
Jonah
While looking into an A/C problem, I happened to check the ratings on all the fuses in the high current fuse box under
the hood. Quite a few of them (like 7 or 8) are not the same rating as listed in the owner's manual. Could the manual
be wrong? I can't imagine someone changing that many with...
