Has the elements been rough on your Explorer? by George Misencik
NEW PROFESSIONAL PAINT CHIP AND SCRATCH TOUCHUP KIT. Now for the first time you can get the same results dealers enjoy. If you can wash and wax your car you can eliminate those unsightly paint chips and scratches leaving the painted surface smooth and shining like it was new. Dealers and...

Compression Test questions by Paul Scrutton
Contemplating doing a compression test on my V6 pushrod (1996) Explorer engine. I've never done one before, so I started reading up about it. The procedure appears to be:- 1) remove all spark plugs. 2) Block throttle wide open 3) Disconnect primary wires from the coil. 4) Insert gauge and crank 4...

A faulty window on a 92 by Charlie Bress
Here's a problem with a front right window on a 92 4 door XLT. The motor and switches are working okay. My wife came back from shopping and said that she could not get the window down all the way and then it would not go back up. Someone in the parking lot had helped her get it back up. Come the...

slow starting by stevie
Lately my Explorer has been slower to start; it does start and run OK, but I have noticed that it has to turn over a little longer before starting. What should I be checking to cause this? The engine hasn't had anything done to it since I purchased it new, May 2000. Except of course, oil changes...

'99XLT Wipers Quit by Mark Sparge
This isn't about the rear wiper -- I learned to ignore that a long time ago <grin>. My front wipers will sometimes not start. I searched through old posts, and it seemed that most were concerned with uncommanded starts. I've checked fuses - obviously not the problem because they will...

Source for 02+ OEM Class 3 hitch? by Dave
Anyone know a source for the OEM Class 3 Hitch for the 02+ Explorer? I can get one that bolts on to the frame underneath the original Class 2, but I' rather just have one receiver back there. Iwas trying to save a few bucks with someone like Reese, or Draw-Tite from the aftermarket, but they...

Towing package or not on '02 XLT? by Bob
I got my '02 XLT used, and I'm not sure how to identify if I have the towing package -- specifically if the hitch is not the standard Class II hitch but the towing package's III+ hitch. It's the 4.0 engine, 2 wheel drive, auto transmission. But, that's all I'm sure of. Thanks for any help on...

Where is steering stabilizer on 99? by Mikepier
I am going to change the shocks myself soon on my 99 XLT. Monroe's website, as well as other auto parts websites, list a steering stabilizer, but I can't find it anywhere in the front of my truck. Can someone point me in the right direction?

'96 Explorer won't start - again by John Ahnen
About 3 months ago, I had a problem with the Explorer starting. At that time, it would crank, but not catch. I replaced the fuel pump relay and the problem went away. Now it cranks, catches, and then immediately dies. Time after time. I tried pumping the gas, not pumping the gas... And I've...

Anyone have leaks using Fram sure drain? by Mikepier
I recently noticed on my 99 XLT that there is a slight leak coming from the threads( where it goes into the oil pan). I loosened the plug slightly and re-tightened it ( not much as I was afraid to strip the threads) I will check again at the end of the day. But I was just curious if anyone else had...

Windshield film by HerkyJerky
On a 2002. I've got some kind of substance (car wash wax maybe?) on the exterior windshield that makes night driving in the rain a significant safety issue. New wipers haven't fixed it. I've tried several auto-type glass cleaners with no success. Recommendations? Solvents, ultra-fine steel wool,...

4wd Dash Buttons Not working...please help a newbie.... by Slamminhoyt
I FINALLY got my brother’s Explorer...a 1994 model for a GREAT price. The thing is bullet proof. It is a 4wd model, but the 4wd hasn’t worked since he has owned it (five months) and he doesn’t have much "mechanical ability" so he just left it alone. You push the actuator buttons and nothing...

tire question by stevie
I noticed noise coming from my tires recently. Mechanic said the tires are 'cupping', probably due to bad shocks. The tires are Michlen XC LT4. They were put on at 18000 miles (Firestone recall) and the car now has 65500 miles. I have replaced the shocks with sensatracs. I also had front end...
