Mixing tire brands? by SQ
Question, I have 2 new Dunlop SP40's in front of my sedan, and in the rear, I am thinking of getting something better, like Michelin HydroEdge. Is this a good idea or should I keep all 4 tires the same, plus the spare? (this would allow ease of rotation) Dunlop SP40 seem OK, don't know how they...

Change 3 of 6 spark plugs, Venture 2002 by Auto
I want to change my spark plugs in my Venture 2002, but the back 3 are too hard to get at. Is there any good reason that I can't at least replace 3 of the 6 plugs. Or is it all or nothing deal? I will be selling the van in a year from now, so will put a cheap pair of plugs to replace. (I...

Having owned and maitained about 20, mostly GM cars in the 70 - 90 era I have a lot of old power steering and engine oil pumps. Now I need to pump waste vegetable oil through a de-watering and particulate (3 micron) filter to a storage tank. I have looked at the price of a commercial item and am...

Adaptive variable suspension (AVS) in '97 Lexus ES300 by Mark[_27_]
I have a '97 Lexus ES300 with 112K miles on it. I have the adaptive variable suspension (AVS) that allows you to change the dampening of the suspension via a switch located in the center console area (next to the gear shifter). I have been getting a lot of 'thumping' noise when I go over even small...

Wait a cycle after resetting MIL before inspection? by Dean
I've had my Lexus LS400 exhaust repaired, and they reset the engine light. Can I get it inspected immediately? (I'm in NJ if that makes any difference.) Shop told me the OBD2 will show "Not Ready" for around 100 miles and I will fail because of that. True or false?

Can an exhaust pipe be "epoxied"? by Stan[_2_]
First the background...the vehicle is a 93 Nissan Quest minivan, 6 cyl engine, with an exhaust leak. It has about 270K miles on it, and living on borrowed time, so putting in $500 to replace pipes is not very cost-wise. Yet I don't want exhuast fumes coming up & I'll have to pass the state's DEQ...

Emissions Testing (NOx) by (o.0)
Hi all, I own a 1985 Toyota Supra that refuses to pass the GA emissions testing. On the first test my NOx was above the limit on both the 25/25 and the 50/15 test. After the first test I SeaFoam'd the engine in every way possible and used the "Guaranteed to Pass" magical liquid. Ten days later I...

My mechanic convinced me to do a full transmission service on my Corolla 2001 with 80K miles. I know some places flush transmission under pressure with special machine which is much better then just drain and replace transmission fluid. My mechanic does not have this machine, however he charged me...
