Adjust headlight by Andy
My mechanic adjusted one of my headlights because it was out of alignment due to some body work to my right fender. However, only the up/down is adjustable. I wonder why the right/left is not adjustable? I seem to recall in the 70s where both adjustment could be made. Andy

Altima hesistation off idle, revisited again! by JM
Ok, so I'm still trying to figure out my hesitation off idle in my 1999 Altima. I've checked for vacuum leaks and I'm relatively sure there are none. I've checked the fuel pressure, and it's within spec. The regulator behaves as described in the service manual when I disconnect the vacuum line. I...

Parts - Dealership vs Autozone by heathert
Ok, I need a man's help here. My girlfriend and I are arguing about some issues with car parts, and I thought I could get a pretty good answer here. Ok, here is the deal, she has a Lumina, it needs spark plugs, wires, etc..for a tune up. I have always been one to buy the cheapest (but will work)...

Vehicle not moving in neutral by [email protected]
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger (manual transmission) and I am having some issues. As best as I can, here is what is happening...When, and only when, the truck sits parked for more than say 4 days, I get in it to drive it, put in in either first or reverse gear and it seems that the brakes (maybe the...

Got a question for someone who lnow about auto tires out there. I recently had to get new tires on car and when I asked the tire person about what to keep the pressure at he said 30 PSI. When I mentioned that the tires called for 44 PSI he said that you go by what the vehicle calls for which is...

Which oil in older car? by J J
I have a 1988 Ford 5.0 V8. Owners manual calls for 5w30 oil. The oil change places want to use 10w 30. A Ford dealership says they use 5W 20 on every car and that it makes no difference. So far I have insisted on using the 5w30. (The engine ticks when first started when using 10W30 in...

Idle problems when temp is cold... by Noozer
Vehicle is a 1986 Chevy G10 van. Canadian 4.3 V6 with a four barrel (M4MED?) carb. Automatic trans. 52,000kms on her. I thought I had this problem licked, but it came back yesterday... (temp dropped to around 0'C) Normally, the van runs really nicely, except for a touch of a lope. (This van...

Overheating and slight rumble when driving over 55mph by Ford Warrior
I just purchased a 1995 Ford E250 cargo van with 4.9L I6 and 3-speed auto. Everything seems to run fine and all fluid levels are up where they should be. No fluid is leaking. Tranny fluid is red, radiator fluid is green, oil is still somewhat clear. Prior to purchasing this vehicle a new...

2003 Chevy Venture Sways on Highway by Anonymous
Hi All, I have a 2003 Chevy Venture with 14,500 miles ... it seems to sway from side to side on the highway at high speeds (it does not do this at lower speeds). Any ideas what this could be? I'm thinking possible wheel alignment or shock absorbers, does this sound right? Also, during a turn on...

QUALCO Muffler Weld - Exhaust system repair by Pszemol
Anybody here used the above mentioned product ? I applied yesterday some amount of it on my exhaust system in my junky car but my concern is that this stuff does not harden. I left a small blob of the material on the parking lot to compare how it hardens on my car and this morning it had thin...

Wheel alignment - how do I know they really fixed it? by [email protected]
My question is pretty much summarized in the subject line. So, you drop off your car at a tire shop for wheel alignment. How do you know they really performed the service? They may have not even touched your car, then gave you some bogus alignment reading printout. 1-2 weeks later the tires are...

oil pump came with gasket? by Ryan Underwood
Ok, I just got my new crank-mounted oil pump. It came with a blue paper gasket instead of the factory o-rings (no gasket came off the old pump). The gasket goes all around the pump and also covers the o-ring slots around the oil passages. Should I use the gasket? If so/not, where should I apply...

Tips on removing plug insulator pieces from cylinder? by Doc
Never had this happen before. I was removing the plugs from my '89 Cressida when I noticed the ceramic electrode insulator on one was broken. I looked in the cylinder with a boroscope and sure enough, the missing piece is sitting on top of the piston. Obviously, I need to get that piece out but so...

Stupid strut cars by Tim Kett
Why do so many car manufacturers make cars that require struts these days ? Shocks are about 15 to 20 times cheaper to install. And who needs $1000.00 airbags, when seat belts work just fine ? Newfangled, easily crunchable JUNK !
